Is Spurrier to blame for Clemson's rise?

Just a few years ago USCe was on the rise and producing 10+ win seasons and destroying Clemson at the end of every year. Now the tables have turned. Is Spurrier to blame? Did he get lazy and send them into a death spiral while Dabbo took advantage? Discuss.

No, that would be Dabo. He isn't the most eloquent or polished, but he built that program.

Yes. But not as much as auburn, georgia and lsu losing to them. That gave them an argument with recruits that they could compete with SEC schools.
SC valiantly held them off for half a decade, but our compatriots shite the bed.

What?? They barely beat us in their own stadium after we lost our best WR early in the game. We then turned around and kicked their asses the next year.

The question is if Clemson can inspire their little brother to greatness too the way Bama has. Auburn has won a Natty, and appeared in another during Bama's GOAT dynasty. After not appearing in one, ever, and their only previous Natty coming during a pre-integration bowl-less probation season. The only other team in the country to appear in two Natties during Bama's run is Oregon. It can't be a coincidence.

07 and 11 not count? I assume you're starting in 2008?

SC's fault for keeping a head coach that was too lazy to recruit and only half-assed his coaching. Spurrier didn't give SC his full potential, and it's the school's fault for not expecting more from him.

^^ This. The old guard didn't do crap in terms of recruiting. Having three 11 win seasons and not a decent recruiting class to show for it. Dabo took a state that has produced solid college and NFL talent by the balls and put good coordinators in place to coach them up. Simple as that.

Starting in 08. 2011 counts, I don't really understand what you mean

Since joining the ACC it has been FSU that has kept Clemson at bay.
However, over that 5 game win streak it was us and FSU that keeping them down and just us several occasions when FSU wasn't doing as well (ie when Clemson won their first ACC title under Dabo and other division titles)
These past 2 years we've been down and FSU, while still good, had an unexpected relapse that most teams have after losing a player like Winston.
eta: Clemson was a regular conference winner pre-FSU. They won it in 1991. FSU joined in 1992 and Clemson didn't win it again until 2011. If it weren't for the 'Noles I'm afraid Clemson would have had a much bigger trophy case.

Spurrier's age caught-up with us all.
And I do mean us all.

No, it's Alabama's and Saban's fault. Bama beat Clemson in 2008, the start of Bama's dynasty, and made Bowden's arse quit. Then Clemson hired Dabo and he built up the team.

He gave us three 11-win seasons and an East championship in 4 years. We also had some great recruiting classes in that span. Can't blame us for not thinking he might not be 100% committed.
When he put Jr. in charge of recruiting, that's when the downfall began. Meanwhile, Dabo was out exploiting Spurrier's comment about only having a couple years left in him. Our shitty staff did nothing to counteract that, and thus Clemson grew strong.

Well Saban was there in 2007. So I figured the dynasty began with him even though he didn't win it until 2008.

As was stated before it was a combination of two things. Spurrier not taking advantage of his success on the recruiting trail due to disdain of the process and laziness, and the fact Clemson kept winning Bowl and Kickoff games against SEC teams. Yes, Georgia almost beat them at home, and then beat them handily in Athens, but Dabo wasn't telling recruits that part. He was going into homes saying we beat Auburn, we beat LSU, we beat Georgia, we can play with anyone. And 18 year old kids eat that stuff up. I can promise he wasn't telling them Clemson got beaten down 5 years in a row by double digits by South Carolina when he went into homes.
Throw in the fact they will always have inflated records because they play in a two team conference and it started snowballing. That and they were Mississippi before Mississippi on the recruiting trail. Dabo's second year they were 6-7 and lost a bowl game to South Florida, fired their OC and yet brought in more five star recruits than anyone, none of which were from SC.
