Yes, but the positives will always outweigh the negatives.

It's more like take the job, because you no longer have one here. Not, I don't like working for Saban.

So now when successful OC/DC's accept new jobs the coach is automatically pinned as an a hole? He wanted new opportunities and to be a HC. Now LSU can hire a real OC! Just hope they do it before all our QBs fricking decommit.

No. Some guys have been with him since his Michigan State days.

He does have high standards though.

He doesn't lose assistants at a faster rate than any other head coach.
The turnover among his assistants is actually remarkably low. It's kind of uncommon for the profession how long he's had some guys.

Saban is an a-hole, but Lane is probably the biggest a-hole in the world. So, all in all, I think it was fair.

Either way this will work out greatly for Bama so who cares?

Really? If Kiffin is considered as toxic as many suggest, he's lucky Saban kept him for three years. Most people laughed at the thought of Saban hiring him in 2014.

It was and still is funny. Despite all their success they couldn't co-exist any longer. Think about that. Winning supposedly cures all. Both would rather be less successful than continue the marriage.

He gave Kiffin an opportunity that NO other coach was giving him. He saved Kiffin's career. Perhaps it has been a given between the two of them that this was Kiffin's last year at Bama (seems that way given that his contract was only through Feb '17 and wasn't extended). It also seems that Kiffin may have enough respect for Saban (the a-hole to work for) that he didn't want to go to a team and coach against him.

I would say Kiffin had other options. Sounds like he just wanted to prove he could lead/build his own program. He's still young. Do the FAU thing for 2-3 years and then get another P5 shot at age 45. Not a dumb move really. FAU returns their starting QB, RB, and top WR.

Well to be fair most of your brethren kept pushing that narrative as to why he would end up at LSU...

Only McElwain lasted longer as OC at Alabama. Everyone stated from the get-go that Kiffin wouldn't be around long. Three years was a lot longer than I expected.

Solid effort. 7.5/10. A little too shiny though.

If he makes it out of FAU and moves up, he'll be the first person to achieve that feat. The numbers are against him.

The good news here is that I can't see any of our position coaches as a threat to move there as coordinators. Not that it would have happened at Houston or USF, either, but it was definitely more likely.

Do you realize how long Kirby coached for Saban?

The only gamble here is Kiffin to FAU. Saban has proven time and again that he can find a solid OC.

You really believe there wasn't another job for him before he signed with Alabama? What did y'all initially pay him?

Not much, USC was still paying him which basically meant we barely had to.

According to tRant, he could make $2 mil at LSU as their OC next year, so either the money wasn't as important as the HC job or he wanted to avoid boarding a train that's headed full speed for a washed out bridge.
