No one has argued that UGA *hasn't* underachieved, particularly over the last 10 years. In fact, we fired a coach that won 9 games and had a team heading to a bowl game (which they won) as a result. Similarly, LSU has had elite recruiting class after elite recruiting class but has struggled to win meaningful games as well, nearly resulting in the firing of their coach as well... No one has said the programs are identical... simply that they're the teams that resemble each other the most from the opposite division.

13-1 UF got lucky in 2006. Still, you're wrong on your original argument (because it sounded like you said LSU was luckier than UGA in 2003). LSU was the best team in 2003. I don't recall if they got into the NC by way of someone in front of them losing, but I don't think they did.

We needed Miami to lose to VaTech in 2002. They did not.

UF needed USC to lose to UCLA in 2006. They did.

You are right that luck plays heavily into who gets in in the end. You're just wrong that 2003 LSU needed it.

Whats going on in this thread?

LSU fans saying, "hell no, we are not UGA"?
UGA fans saying, "yep"?

But the answer is yes, except the part about "moderate" success

You must have been watching Finebaum when Spurrier implied exactly this yesterday?

I figured it would end-up being misrepresented on the SECr some time today.

What Spurrier said, after being asked about Richt and Miles, was that Georgia and LSU fans feel that they should be up there, contending for championships, every single season.

He said LSU he could see, but Georgia ... he tried to be kind and he tried to say they have a similar recruiting advantage in their home state to LSU ... but he just couldn't quite come-out and say that Georgia fans deserved to feel that way. Rather, he implied that perhaps UGA fans might be a tad bit delusional.

So he basically said Smart would have to work hard to do as well as Richt had done.

I get where you are going with this, but the big difference is that in the last 13 years, LSU has actually won 2 national titles and played for a 3rd.

Spurrier hates UGA. That's the only fuel he has backing this thought process. He still can't get over Jake Scott.

Any team that loses a game needs luck to get a mnc shot.

This is true and clearly LSU > Georgia, and yet, it does seem like LSU is the Georgia of the West...

Hardly fair.

UGA has no river/sea access.

Plus, a ship hasn't been won near Baton Rouge (outside of possibly some Boudreaux wager) since 1863. And, in spite of Sherman's affiliation with LSU and fighting on the Mississippi, Farragut, from Tennessee, clearly had more influence on winning those ships.
