If he does well the next year or 2 a mid-major will take a chance on him. Smartest move he ever made was immediately taking a job on Saban's staff rather than count his pennies, if he ever wanted to be a HC at a major school again.

Seriously doubt it. Kiffins problem has always been his mouth. That's under control by default right now, but if he becomes a HC again it's going to be unleashed.
Plus, he will be gone before we look for another HC.

Kiffin's problem isn't his mouth. It is that he is a lousy head coach.
As an OC he's fine. Maybe not quite as ground and pound as you need to be in today's game, but you can do a lot worse then him.
Not everyone is meant to be the head coach of a major program.
