I can't really tell if he is a good coach or just the lucky SOB. I know he's obviously not terrible but he had freakish talent with Johnny and now he seems to have found another horseshoe. Where would you rank them in the SEC?

1) Looks to me like he's "found" a shite ton of horseshoes.

2) It's too early to know.

I think Kevin Sumlin gets too little credit for what he got out of Sherman's best players, and too much blame for what he got out of Sherman's worst players.

We'll learn a lot this year.

Right now I'd probably rank them 2nd in the SEC, but there's a reason the CFP rankings wait so long to come out. He has a really good offensive mind IMO, and he relates to the players really well. A lot of teams would be really lucky to have him.

Yes, he's a good coach. We've got some timing issues to work out on offense. I'm sure he'll make that a priority over the next few weeks before the SEC stretch.

No.

I mean, you just can't be a good coach when your success comes from good players.

Right?

I thought he was gonna blow that game last night by inserting that true freshman qb. the kid may be fast as lightning but he sucked at running his teams offense. I wonder what would have happened if he had not got injured? I think the aggies would have lost. allen won that game for them. it was damn close within 5 min. of the fourth.

The scientific term for that is the "Les Miles Effect".

He makes 5 million a year. You make less than 80k. Now think about that and ask again.

Finding and recruiting horseshoes is part of being a good coach is it not? Now if you specifically asked about x's & o's that could be a good debate.

I think Kyler loosened the defense up, and Kyle came in and played confident and consistent. Took both of them.

Going out on a limb and guessing that you watched the game via TV and not from a seat in the stadium. ASU's blitzes were-- for lack of better words-- CRAZY. We had issues coordinating an adequate adjustment to them. (First game issues? Hopefully). Everyone of us there over the age of 12 and under the age of Alzheimer's knew that putting Murray in would mean an obvious recourse. Sumlin made the move about the time I would have had him do so, give or take a series. It worked. We're 1-0 and will be ranked in the Top 20 Tuesday morning. Another point for "Lucky Sumlin".

You're correct. But horseshoes may muddle the x and os discussion.

Nick Saban is only good because of all those 5 star players

being a good salesman is part of coaching in college.

plenty of coaches have pissed away talent.

some coaches hold onto assistants for too long and it ends up costing them.

on balance, i'd say sumlin has done a decent job.
