I know the NFL won't let college football have it on the day of the wild card round so why not have it on the Friday before OR do it a week after the semi finals. 830pm on a Monday is a real pain in the arse when I have to be up for watch at 0430

Would love to have a "Championship Saturday" like the NFL has Super Bowl Sunday.

But it will never happen because the NFL isn't giving up that weekend. I would also say that ratings are better on Mondays but the fact that the CFP is being played on NYE shows you that isn't the ultimate goal.

I'm thinking they're using the CBB title game as a model, since that's on Mondays, but are forgetting that CFB games tend to run longer than CBB ones.

College basketball title is weird too. They have a week break for the final four and build up the final four and then barely advertise the championship and are like meh whatever.

It's particularly bad when you play it out west and you can't kick off until nearly 9 p.m. eastern.

Was nearly 1 a.m. when it went final on a Monday night well beyond the holiday.

I don't think there's a benefit to moving from Monday to Friday. Monday night is fine, but not when the game starts at 8:30 and is 2,000 miles away from the closest team involved.

Wouldn't take much for the NFL to play their games that weekend on 1:00 and 4:00

Im just not buying into the whole Monday Nt narrative of being the best night to max out the ratings for the game and some other sports.Saturday Nt has been very successful for CFB during the regular season.

The powers that be (TV execs)are just too afraid to try anything new or think outside the box.

The tv ratings would have to be better on the weekend. I had friends that don't really care about college football, but watch games with me all year and they bailed on me Monday because of work the next day. When I was growing up I would miss some of the game because of football workouts and homework.

I agree. The Final Four is on a Saturday afternoon. No reason the College Football Championship couldn't be there either if a deal wasn't worked out with the NFL....although I'm sure someone will chime in to tell me there is a good reason.

Its just funny how hellbent they are on having the Playoffs on New Years Eve, which is arguably the worst possible time to have them ratings rise.

It will change the next time the television contract is up for CFBP rights.

No way ESPN or any other network is going to pay that kind of money for a game played on nights that people don't watch TV.

Once again,Saturday games during the regular season have some of the most successful as far as ratings.

Sports is different than regular TV as far as viewing habits as well. Some of the hignest rated World Series games have been played on a Saturday Nt.TV execs are just too afraid to try something new.Hell, the lead up and pregame alone on a Saturday could maks up for much of the ad revenue that might be potentially lost by switching the game to Saturday.Right now,its a big dark hole for lead up revenue on Mondays.

Someone with the right vision could make it happen.
