Faced 2 Top 5 air raid/spread teams in consecutive semifinals (Clemson) and whooped their frickin' arse. One thing I always admired about chief is that his defenses always knew how to make gimmicky smoke and mirrors teams look stupid.

Ohio State is in no way shape or form an "air raid spread team"

Oops meant to put that line between them. I wasn't implying that either team was both.

Either way, Ohio State hardly runs a "gimmicky smoke and mirrors" offense. They line up and try to run it down your throat. They just do it from a more spread out formation.

Yes, Ohio State is a straight forward smashmouth style of offense. I think LSU is going to get some of that with Canada. I personally love it.

Venables is a great coach. Urban Meyer, altho I personally think is a douche, is an excellent offensive mind and couldnt do squat against Clemson with a month to prepare.

Last year, Oklahoma had a very good offense, better than most will ever know. They werent the typical BIG 12 gimmicky, sling all over the field offense. That second half was complete mastery.

I noticed him against LSU back in 2012. That LSU team was a pro team, NFL draft picks all over the field, 400+ yards and 85 plays against the Natl Champs that year. They couldnt move the ball against Clemson especially when it counted.

Did he interview for any HC jobs last year? Pickings were pretty slim last year, but its hard to believe hes not the head man somewhere.

Venables weakness has always been TEs and teams who use them to attack the middle of the field and up the seam. If you can't do that, you probably won't win.

Venables will never be a head coach. He doesn't want to be.

As far as we know, no one has ever made overtures to him for a HC position, so it seems it's well-known in the coaching community that he has no interest in that position. Or, he really is waiting on the K State job. I hope not, because he's extremely popular with the fan base.

Brent Venables gave up 43 points in a loss to Matt Canada's Pittsburgh offense.

You'll probably find out soon enough. I think this will be Snyder's last year.

Dabo is really good at spreading the money around for his coordinators rather than take more for himself, which has created a very stable staff.

Venables is making as much if not more than most Mid-Majors and is at a program that loves him and can do no wrong.

He can afford to cherry-pick the right job.

If Alabama is able to pull Dabo away when Saban retires then Venables would probably be the heir apparent to take over the Tigers and the fans would be fine with that.
