I know the reason why we never play in it already because the SEC destroys anyone in it!!

That wasn't the Rose Bowl. It was at the Rose Bowl, but not the Rose Bowl.

UGA won the Rose bowl in the '43, beat UCLA 9-0...

We lost to FSU in that structure, but not in the Rose Bowl Game.

January 1, 1940 #3 USC 14 #2 Tennessee 0 92,200
January 1, 1943 #13 UCLA 0 #2 Georgia 9 93,000
January 1, 1945 #7 USC 25 #12 Tennessee 0 91,000
interestingly enough it looks Alabama was the last the non Big 10 or Pac 10 team to go to the Rose Bowl in 1946 and Georgia actually has a Rose Bowl win.

'39 and '43 or '44 Vols went out there, and of course played USC. So losses after traveling out there from E-TN is logical.

No. Alabama just went the most.

GT went in '29 but that was a coupla years before the SEC was formed...

To this day, only 6 teams have more Rose Bowl wins than Alabama, and we haven't been since 1946.

ok SEC was chatered in 1932, so Tulane went on New Year's day 1932, must have been just before the sec was formed.

It makes me think the Pac 10 went into the contract with the Big 10 in an effort to duck Alabama, who was beating that west coast arse too much.

I really hate that the SEC doesn't play in that game. That would be a much better trip than the same old games we get every year.

It's complete bullshite that we don't play the Pac12 in a bowl.

In 1961 (Jan 1962 game) the Rose Bowl agreement between big 10 and PAC 8 had expired. Alabama was undefeated and was already the AP and UPI consensus National Champion. Coach Bryant desperately wanted to be invited to the Rose Bowl especially given his history playing out there.
Segregation was an issue and he reportedly dressed two of the black locker room assistants in uniforms and had them stand behind him in the last game, a shellacking of Auburn, in hopes photos and TV would give integrated team impression.
Didn't work ... though the Rose Bowl strongly considered Alabama, and delayed and delayed making a decision, they opted for big 10 opponent and next year signed a new agreement between Pac and Big. Alabama went to win its Bowl game against and was already crowned NC before the Bowl.
