Is 2015 LSU on pace to mirror 2013 Auburn's offense?

So far, LSU has rushed the ball on 241/331 plays on offense. That is roughly 72.8% of the time. In 2013, Auburn rushed the ball on 729/1,014 plays on offense. That was roughly 71.8% of the time. LSU averages 7.2 YPC right now, Auburn averaged 6.3 YPC back then. LSU has 18 touchdowns right now, Auburn had 48 back then.

Running quarterback in Brandon Harris like Nick Marshall, more than one capable running back in Cam Artis-Payne, Tre Mason, Corey Grant, Leonard Fournette, Derrius Guise and Darrel Williams.

Obviously LSU hasn't played a competent defense yet and won't until Florida and Alabama, but can they keep this up and eventually go down as the best rushing attack in SEC history? Better than 2013 Auburn?

Having posed the above question, I think LSU fans now know that you should run the ball as much as you want when nobody can stop it. Many of you heckled Auburn by saying the rushing attack wasn't as good as it seemed because Auburn "ran the ball all the time." Why stop when no one can stop you? Auburn figured this out in 2013, LSU has it figured out so far in 2015 if they can keep the momentum going.

Does the SECRant think this can continue? Final stat predictions?

Finally you guys are starting to realize this. No one has come close to stopping LSU's running game and the difference between Mississippi State's defensive front 7 is at best a 50 yards from Alabama's. No one will stop LSU running this year. The only chance is to break our defense.

As a comparison, Auburn averaged 328.2 yards per game in 2013 (14 games).

As of now, LSU averaged 346.4 yards per game (5 games).

Yeah, our running play calling against SEC teams has been really fun to watch. The read option, misdirections, hell even running it out of the spread. LSU's running game is much more dynamic than it's been in previous years. I just wish we'd run it more during our OOC schedule.

eta: Also the threat of sweeps to Donte Jackson

Difference is we don't run from shotgun 100% of the time. Our QB is under center, our back is in I formation, and our FB leads the way. Still both great rushing attacks , but different philosophies. LSU also doesn't rely on very many outside runs. LSU hits you in the mouth.

Actually, it's about 100 yards.

Alabama is allowing 77.3 rushing yards per game, and Miss St. is allowing 170.2.

Similar offensive scheming when compared to Auburn 2013.

Seems like Les Miles learned a little something.

BTW, has LSU gotten rid of that backwards pitch play from under center yet?

I think our offense will even out more as the schedule gets tougher and Harris continues to improve. It'll probably be something like 60/40 or 65/35 run to pass ratio by the end of the season. If Harris regresses though, with the injury to JD Moore added in, it wouldn't surprise me to see us go full AU and zone read, counter, and sweep teams to death.

Why would we? It's been wildly successful this year.

Nah, but it has a shockingly high success rate as unorthodox as it is. Like memphis said our bread and butter is still running it down your throat, but it's exciting to see us give teams a lot more to think about.

Also fournette and Guice will be our best pass catching rb duo maybe ever, so those two in the backfield out of the shotgun is just unfair

Nope and we absolutely shouldn't. I bet if you looked it up most of our big runs come off the toss dive. The QB's initial step shifts the D away from the play and it gives the RB extra time to pick his hole and speed up. With an elite RB like Fournette or Hill it works to perfection.

It's just a question.

Outside of the Auburn/LSU game, I haven't watched them.
