Since the renewal of the rivalry in 1948, almost every Auburn or Alabama HC who coached in at least 3 Iron Bowls has the following in common: the result of their final IB matched the result of their first.

Auburn HCs
Earl Brown: lost
Ralph Jordan: lost
Doug Barfield: lost
Pat Dye: lost
Terry Bowden: won
Tommy Tuberville: lost
Gene Chizik: lost

Alabama HCs
Jennings Whitworth: lost
Paul Bryant: lost
Ray Perkins: lost
Bill Curry: lost
Gene Stallings: won
Mike DuBose: lost
Mike Shula: lost

The lone exception to this nearly 7 decade long pattern was the Tide's first IB HC, Harold Drew, who won the initial IB over Earl Brown in '48, but was fired after losing to Jordan's Tigers in '54.

Given this clear historical trend, it is much more likely Nick Saban will leave following an Iron Bowl defeat, while Gus Malzahn will go out a winner.

I wouldn't bet on it. Gus seems to struggle to win bowls.
