I know we have already had stories about both, but this is a comparison article. The ones I found interesting were:

quote:

Auburn collected $4.384 million in student fees, while Alabama collected nothing. Essentially, Auburn students are directly subsidizing the athletic department. Alabama hasn't charged student fees for athletics for seven consecutive years.

quote:

Alabama provides nearly $6 million in direct institutional support for the athletic department -- i.e. waived out-of-state tuition fees, state funds, etc. -- while Auburn did not provide any direct support.

quote:

Auburn's equestrian team generated more revenue in 2013-14 than women's basketball.

quote:

Another huge discrepancy between the two schools is in the area of endowment/investment income. Alabama netted $10.7 million in this category while Auburn brought in a mere $1.2 million.

We've always known that BAMA is where all of the wealthy families from Alabama send their kids to college... Auburn is a good school if you want to become a park ranger or a farmer.

You know, developing a first rate basketball program would help. I doubt Auburn has sold out a game in years and ticket prices, at least a few years ago, were less than going to a movie

Can he not opt out?

To my knowledge, the kinds of fees that are being referred to are required.

Didn't the University pay off Sabans debt on his real estate properties?

I have no clue. I was asking if he was required to pay for the tickets, or if it was something that he opted to do.

He can opt out of tickets. But to say that students aren't charged to attend games is misleading. The first year as a freshman, he could only choose between two plans that covered three or four games. The cost was $40. The last three years he has been eligible for full season tickets at the $70 cost. Not complaining as that is not much to pay... but the money he does pay should be counted as revenue generated through the students.

if bama is the school for the wealthy, it is pretty odd that auburn collected 10 million dollars more in private donations from fans and boosters. alabama's advantage largely came in more money from ticket sales and tv and radio contracts simply due to having a larger fan base

Our endowment is considerably bigger than yours both literally and figuratively.

Agreed, but that is not the same thing as a student athletic fee.
