Doesn't really matter if the NCAA had already spoken with Ole Miss about these texts. Whatever punishment was originally planned is going to have to change. Because of the public spectacle surrounding these texts, the NCAA is going to have to save face. If they are too lenient, it ruins whatever credibility they had left. So if the NCAA did previously know about these texts, I have to assume that their original plan is now gone and they are going to implement a stricter punishment. It is all because of the public nature in how the texts were brought to light.

Shep we can't comment on the investigation until we have officially responded which was delayed 30 days.

Why wouldn't they just come out and say this is old news and related to our current NOA??
Because we're addressing it in two weeks. We can't address it until all parties in the NOA are ready for us to.

U r dealing with a gentler NCAA. That's your hope in this mess. I remember during our Albert Means deal not to worry. We didn't even get hit with lack of institutional control and lost close to 30 schollies and the ability to compete from 03 to 08. If ole miss gets hit like that they won't compete for 15 years. U should b very nervous and have ole Hugh pray a lot.

I don't know what all the fuss is about. I would be more concerned if I was Alabama, except that they are Alabama. They actually fired a coach for cheating. Ole Miss is just a media firestorm.

At least we aren't UT. That would suck. Why do so many people pay to watch a team lose?

Uh...you understand the electric bill issue was when he was an amateur. The financial advisor, agent, and attorneys: those come along starting in January when football is over. These guys can start taking money the day after the Sugar Bowl.

Wut? There was a 100% chance OM was going to put out something like this this week. You have to. You're actually buying it?

Even if this were about Alabama, and we put out the predictable fluff piece like this I'd still laugh at it. Have you literally never seen these situations happen before with the predictable responses like this coming out?

Dickie Scruggs took out big tobacco, he let the power go to his head and got greedy. But Scruggs is a historically significant person because of his litigation against one the most powerful industries on the planet. If he would have taken down the Columbian cocaine trafficking industry it would have been less impressive.
