I'm watching SEC network special on the history of Miss St and their field. All weekend while watching LSU sweep State the commentators have talked about Miss St's history.
As a fairly young sports fan I wasn't aware of their great history. How many national championships do they have? 3? 4? 10?

Grinded at 9am. Setting the bar high for your LSU peers, I see.

I'm on your side, FTR. I hate to see LSU fans acting like Gumps and rub salt in the wounds and diminish opponents . Also FTR, at the high point of LSU baseball historically, no school was a more respected baseball rival than MSU and I enjoyed every series and the one trip I made there for a series in the 90s .

Actually, during LSU's highest point of the 90's Alabama and Florida was more of a baseball rival.

Are you saying I'm grinded?

You are trying WAY too hard for a Sunday morning. Just enjoy the series sweep bro. No need to go Full Gump. Never go Full Gump.

Lets see what the wiki says
Since 99 when they changed the playoff format:
2 CWS appearances including 1 CWS runner-up
13 tourney appearances
4 SEC titles
Looks like a solid arse program.

Read up on Thunder, Lightning, and Polk and you'll know about the history they are referring to.
Like Pimp I thought of UF as the team to beat. Miami and FSU were also baseball powerhouses too at the time so that might be why.
The second half of the 80's MSU was the SEC powerhouse and only UF and LSU were able to win the SEC instead of them in that 5 yr span. Or at least that was the perception from a young LSU fan.

You do realize that you just made it obvious that this is a troll thread don't you? Not that there was any doubt before anyway.

I am a visionary. I saw the flaws in State. I knew UK was good enough to not get swept by UF. Sorry for being right, like usual.

In the 60s, 70s and even 80s, MSU with Polk was the equivalent to LSU in 90s and 2000s (minus NCs :)

I would say they are very comparable to A&M. Consistently good, very semi-great at times, but can't quite get over the title hump. It is okay to recognize that.

your post is probably a troll as I don't think MSU has ever won a nattie.
BUT, you need to understand baseball as a college sport before Ron Polk took the reins at MSU. it was basically an after thought in the SEC. Miami, Okie lite, Clemson, USC and a few others were the only teams I can remember that embraced the sport. Polk showed the SEC that it was viable financially and a lot of damn fun to be good at baseball and he signed some of the best players to ever come out of college (will clark, Raphael palmero and others). and then Skip Bertman left Miami to come to LSU and things began to explode in the SEC.
now, everyone has a great park and the fans are coming in droves to see their school play. it's great if you are a baseball fan.

True that, missed a great opportunity in 1985, Clark, Palmero, Brantley & Thigpen. All MLB Allstars just bad luck. 2013 all the way to the finals of the CWS again bad luck. But what the heck, Coastal Carolina won it last year, it's who ever gets hot at the end.

couldn't have been said better. the fact is, baseball is a tough sport to win tournaments in; often not the best overall team wins. getting hot at the right time plus getting a break or two is needed to win in Omaha.
