a week before the season starts. Wow.
ETA: Auburn connection added to satisfy SEC requirement.

In a release, Illinois AD Mike Thomas said he learned of "efforts to deter injury reporting and influence medical decisions that pressured players to avoid or postpone medical treatment and continue playing despite injuries," adding, "I expect my coaches to protect players and foster their success on and off the field."

you're right, it's not SEC related in any way and the proper board for it already has a thread on it.

but this is the SEC rant, ie...a board for SEC happenings. This story belongs on the all encompassing MOre Sports Board..where a thread already exists.
If people here aren't willing to click on another board that's their problem.

Tigerdroppings =/= SECr
You're fine posting it here. It could go on the off topic board, but it's a grey area imo

Doesn't surprise me about Illinois.
There's been an ongoing investigation into the Athletic Department there. I've read and I have first hand knowledge.
One of my former softball players went to school there 2 years ago. Her coach denied her treatment with the athletic trainers when she said her pitching arm was too sore to throw. Basically, she threw almost every game and the coach wouldn't pull her out when she was hurting.
Also, the coach "punished" the team by denying access to the academic center for tutoring and computer access. Thank goodness she brought her own laptop anyway so she would find the library with internet access and would do her work there.
Thankfully the softball coach was fired there last year, but my player told me after transferring to Oklahoma State that this was going on in several sports at Illinois.

The guy was on the hotseat but this is amazing. Talk about terrible timing, no one serious will take that job. This is a program with 5 claimed national titles. Shows you how far programs can fall.

The OP is full of info, like a link to the article or even the name of said coach.
