llinois fullback Jay Prosch will transfer to Auburn, the Illini announced Wednesday.

Prosch had told the Alabama Press-Register that he wanted to transfer to be closer to his mother who is recovering from brain cancer and to find a system that better suits him than the spread offense new coach Tim Beckman will use.

Prosch served mostly as a blocking back in his two seasons with Illinois, carrying only twice for nine yards. He led special teams this season with 10 tackles.

In 2010, he helped running back Mikel Leshoure set a team rushing record. Prosch was named a first-team All-American by Pro Football Weekly on Dec. 12 and was an Academic All-Big Ten honoree this year.

FBs do other things too

i think our FBs had like a combined 2 carries this year compared to when our FB southerland led the team in TDs in 2006

apparently stats don't matter for All-American status anymore.

Might free up Lutz to go back to TE, I am sure he will apply for a waiver to play immediately...

"Jay Prosch has decided to transfer to Auburn and will be there for the current semester," Beckman said. "He will have an opportunity to be much closer to his mother, who continues to face health issues. We wish Jay the best as he makes this move."

Prosch served primarily as a blocking back the past two seasons, registering two carries for nine yards in his career. He also was a diligent special teams player, sharing the team's outstanding special teams player award for 2011. Prosch led the squad with 10 tackles this season and had 11 total tackles for the year. In 2010, he helped pave the way for Illinois' single-season rushing leader, Mikel Leshoure, and the Big Ten's top rushing offense.

You seriously are retarded, aren't you? Fullbacks aren't named All-Americans based on what they do with the ball. They're nammed AA based on how well they block for a running back. GTFO, clown.

Unless this new OC is going to more of a Pro Style, he's going to have to be an H-back.

Although I'd love to see us going under center on 3rd and short and hammering it inside with this guy, whatever offense we run.

CHAMPAIGN, Illinois -- Jay Prosch is a freak. And that's a good thing.

The former star linebacker and offensive lineman at UMS-Wright in Mobile is now a standout fullback at Illinois. And just like during his high school days, Prosch is the strongest player in his league.

When ESPN's Bruce Feldman named his 2011 "Freaks" list, which highlights college football's top workout warriors, Prosch was the only Big Ten player on the list.

"In the past, we have had two football players hang clean 396 (pounds)," Illinois head football strength coach Lou Hernandez told ESPN. "Jay absolutely killed 401 this winter as well. He constantly excites the room with his work."

The 6-foot sophomore now weighs 255 pounds with only 9 percent body fat.

After playing in every game as a freshman, Prosch is looking to take on an expanded role this fall as a runner as well as a punishing blocker.

AMM AU9893 could probably tell us more about him...

If Auburn moves to a Pro-Style, good luck with Kiel Frazier and Zeke Pike. They're going to need a lot of teaching on taking a snap under center.

It was a tough transition for Tyler Wilson, coming from the Greenwood spread, to Petrino's Pro-style. There were many fumbled snaps before he was allowed to play in a pressure situation.

He went to school with my oldest son. A great kid with a serious mean streak on the field. Awesome pickup from an athletic and CHARACTER stand point. Auburn could use it.

Leigh Tiffin agrees with this.

How many XPs did he miss in 2009?
Hell, he didn't even finish in the top 2 in the SEC in FG pct.
