I can see an argument for both sides but I would lean towards most deserving since the " best " team is subjective.
I also realize that the most deserving team would be labeled the most deserving by beating teams ranked in a subjective poll, so I can see an argument for both. What would you go by?

In 2013 Alabama was obviously the most talented and best-coached team in the BCS title game. Notre Dame was the most deserving because they were undefeated and they had some big road wins throughout the year. But on the field it was Tyson vs Spinks. It was David vs Goliath. And Goliath annihilated David. Now the "U" in 2003 was Goliath and OSU was David. Every now and then the most deserving can win. But the odds are with best team. But not always the most talented team. You need a combination.

You have to vote most deserving. Why even play the games if not?
Both are subjective, but "best team" is MUCH more so. This is one of the reasons the committee approach sucks. We have Condeleeza Rice applying the "eyeball" test.

Since it is about the best team, I would try my best to figure out who that is.
I guess you are one of those participation trophy people.

bullshite.
There are numerous cases in cfb where the best team wasn't the most deserving.

Deserving
One who rises to middle management level. Never excels, but never screws up. Solid, comes to work on time, leaves on time, and is presented with a watch and a plaque of commemoration after 40 years with the company.
Best
One who hits the ground running. Willing to take risks and fails on occasion, but the successes are spectacular. Rises to the top, retires after 15 years to spend the rest of his life doing whatever the frick he wants as money is no object.
I know which one I'd prefer. Screw the watch.

Those teams are appropriate to the descriptions. Although AU's failures are every bit as spectacular as the successes...and far outnumbers the successes.
