If you must attend a wedding on game day when you'd rather be at the game

I just thought of this for another poster. I see no reason why someone couldn't pull this off to great celebration:

quote:

Here's an idea (pretty creative too):

Call the groom ASAP. Tell him the truth. Say, "Mutherfricker...you know how much this game means to me! To us! Why the frick did you allow your fiancé to plan the wedding on that weekend of all weekend?"

No matter how your friend responds, follow up with this, "I don't want this to drive a wedge between us. I value your friendship. You're like a brother to me. Which makes what I'm about to say painful but necessary: I won't be at your wedding. I'm going to the game."

Your friend will protest but kindly cut him off and say, "Dude, if I miss that game because you didn't have the balls to tell your fiancé to schedule it on another date...I'll hate you forever. I love you too much to allow your fiancé to ruin our lifelong friendship. Dude, I hope you'd do the same for me. I'd expect nothing less."

Your friend will continue to protest, perhaps at this point he will be preparing to leave. You grab his arm and say, "Sit down and please listen to me, baw. I have a compromise that may make your wedding the GOAT wedding. Hear me out..."

Your friend will take a seat and begrudgingly listen.

"We can make this work through Skype. I'll take my iPad to the game and wear the tux as well. You can place your iPad on a table near the alter so that you can see me and I can see you and your fiancé during the ceremony. I won't just be there in spirit, I'll actually be there through the power of technology. Also, I'll do my best to get the crowd into it as much as possible. The moment you kiss, the entire crowd will congratulate you and cheer. It'll be one of the coolest things imaginable. Also, I'll try to get the stadium to project your wedding kiss onto the jumbo tron for everyone to witness. If I can pull it off, it'll be legendary for me, for you and your fiancé, for EVERYONE! Think about that. This is a great idea, bro! Roll with it! Send me to the game!"

Your friend will smile and certainly consider it.

Just remember to tell him it was Killz' idea.

I missed a close friends wedding a few years ago due to the Alabama/Vanderbilt game.

I still feel like an a-hole when I think about it.

But you didn't try to arrange the scenario I just laid out in the OP

My fiance wanted a fall wedding....We're getting married the weekend after the SECCG. She wanted to schedule it on a bye weekend , as if we don't have guests that went to several different SEC schools and guests don't want to watch other games. She asked why everything has to revolve around football. I told her I didn't make the rules, I just acknowledge them and if she wanted people to come to the wedding, it was in her best interest not to schedule the wedding during a football saturday.

I've been forced to go to two weddings during Razorback games over the last four years. We've lost to ULM and Toledo on those weekends.

well, if we're being com completely honest, when it comes to the wedding, I generally just do what I'm told. If you've ever been married, that's the best advice I could give you. I was just persuasive enough with the pros and cons of fall dates to get what I wanted. If she was hell bent on having the wedding on a weekend in October, like any other husband that cares about his own happiness, I'd have done as I was told (and set up TVs in the groomsman lounge area)

I've skipped a friend's wedding that was the weekend of the spring game. So I'm sure as hell not missing an actual game.

It's truly bad juju to attend a wedding on game day. You jinx the team. It's as if the universe feels your longing and pain and decides to stab you in the heart for not have the balls to go to the game instead...

Call up the TV network and try to get them to change the time so you can attend a wedding.

I planned my wedding two years ago on a Razorback bye week. If I hadn't done that, the pastor and my best men would have never showed up .

I'm married, bruh...so I get what you're saying. However, this thread isn't for grooms. Grooms are doomed no matter what.

This thread is for the people who are forced to attend someone else's wedding on game day.

I was in a wedding on a gameday a few years ago. but it was 'road game." Luckily it was at least an afternoon game so we could at least watch it

They're divorced now, so it was a good call.

With a 50% divorce rate there is no sense in missing a conference game.

If it's Alcorn St. yeah I could probably skip that one. If it's any SEC game really, I'm good at making friends, I'll make new friends at the game.
