From a recruiting stand point it would be a homerun hire. No one can really dispute that.

From a head coaching standpoint....no one really knows. I would be happier with him than say Dan Mullen or another lateral coach.

Tom Herman
Kirby Smart
David Shaw

Would be my short list

Horrible. Hiring a LOSING coach from a low midmajor school is something only an absolute moron (read: Mike fricking Hamilton) would do.

Edit: I guess you're saying that's how you would feel if UGA hired Smart. Why's that?

Who really knows how good a coach Smart is? I mean, it can't be hard to coach with those animals he's had on D. Also, how much say so does Saban have? I would be leery to hire him.

I think Kirby would keep Pruitt. His work would be cut out on the offensive side of the ball.

Just because he's a Saban disciple doesn't mean he'll pan out.

Mac is an exception. He proved he could win at Colorado St. Jimbo Fisher took over a pretty good situation at FSU but he was already there like 3 years before Bowden stepped down.

Smarts another loser waiting to happen. They need young offensive coach.

The majority of us feel Kirby snubbed us about 5 years ago. Plus, we want an offensive mind to come in which would help keep Pruitt around. So, Herman is probably the most popular choice.

I couldn't be happier today.
Only the USCw job is possibly more attractive at the moment, depending on the candidate. UGA picked the right time to make the move.
