. . . either because they got religion (intentional pun) and didn't ask OR Auburn said no, why doesn't Cam end up at MSU where he wanted to go? If neither university paid, why not go where you wanted to all along?

Because Cecil realized he effed up when he didn't get paid by MSU (and possibly new that MSU was going to have to report it) and so he steered Cam away from muddied waters. Just a theory.

I know this is the story the Newton's are sticking to but it seems suspect at best.

I believe this is the most likely reason as well.

To be fair, you won't believe anything except that the Newton's got paid by AU or AU booster. So anything that doesn't end in that scenario is suspect to you.

The reason Cecil steered away from MSU is because Dan Mullen told Cecil he was going to turn him in.

I think he hopes to play in the NFL. Not a ton of 1st - 3rd rounders come out of Blinn.

If memory serves me correctly (which it fails me at times), Auburn came out of nowhere towards the end of the recruitment. Why Auburn when they weren't even on the radar yet other D-1 schools were?

How funny would it be that MSU actually did give Cecil Newton some money and Cam ended up going to AU so they turned him into the SEC?
