If the Gators lose to Kentucky, does McElwain lose his job?

So here is my scenario:

Florida will probably lose to Michigan to start the season. Then they have a gimme with Northern Colorado. Lets ignore the Tennessee game, as I don't really think honest fans on either side are sure what will happen here.

Then, the Gators play at Kentucky. This is a Kentucky team that is trending in the right direction, and could come into this game undefeated if they can pull out a win at South Carolina.

If Florida loses this game, which could happen, it would snap the 30 game streak, which is the longest in SEC history. Florida will probably lose at least 2 more games and probably won't finish better than 8-4 for the season. I could see them dropping at least a pair of the games in their schedule to LSU, aTm, Georgia, SC or FSU. Is that enough to push Butter Teeth out at Florida?

I'm not trying to argue that Tennessee will finish better than Florida, or that our coach is better than yours. I would love to see Tennessee move on from Butch and I think a lot of Gator fans feel similarly about McElwain. I'm mostly curious about the current security of his position in the eyes of the fans. Yes, he was two SEC East division championships, but considering the performances in the SEC Championship games and against Power 5 teams (1-3, including Bowls), it doesn't seem like McElwain is the one.

Is a pair of SEC East divisional champs enough to save him at this point if he loses to the Cats and finishes third or worse in the East?

the fact that he's won the East the past two seasons, regardless of how he got there, has bought him at least another year after this year unless he does something like go 5-7.

Here's my scenario:
Butch loses to Muschamp for the 6th straight season.

No, but I do see Kentucky winning in a bloodbath. Florida might go 4-12 this year.

I think your scenario is shite....but we could lose to UK....that will be much tougher than Meatchicken and the hillbillies...so we go 11-1 and UT goes 8-4 maybe. Jones will be gone after this year....hire orange pants back? At least he could catch passes on the sideline.

I see 7-5 for the Gators in '17.

While I know UGA certainly can't ever count on beating them, I see Florida losing to Georgia, LSU, and Florida State.

I think they also lose 2 of the remaining games, most likely to Michigan or Tennessee.

Well, there are a lot of Gator fans and a lot of them are insane. A few of them are here.

None of my Gator friends in life want him fired.

You can find plenty of extreme fans on message boards to feed your beliefs no matter what they are. It doesn't take long either.

McElwain should win this game and win rather easily Michigan returns like 8 starters total. They might be the Power 5 team with the least returning starters.

If Florida loses to Michigan by any more than a single score Mac will start feeling the heat.

Keep piling on, this team we will be fine.
If McElwain sucks so bad why haven't any of you other teams managed to win the east (looking at you UT,UGA,) the past 2 seasons?

He's done it with Treon Harris, Luke Del Rio and Austin Appleby at QB. Let that sink in bitches.
If he finds a decent QB you're all playing for 2nd place, and you know it.

While Id like to see Kentucky beat Florida we're gonna have to do a lot more "Trending" on the defensive line.

I think this is the year the Harbaugh bubble bursts, wouldn't be shocked if UM missed a bowl.

Typical dumb arse Tennessee fan.

If McElwain sucks so bad why didn't Butch win the east?
He had the better QB? He had talent like Derek Barnett, Kamara.

The fact is Butch is a fraud. And so is UT.

Could happen. I wouldn't be surprised. Maybe we will get a real coach if we lose to SCAR again.

UT goes 8-4 maybe. Jones will be gone after this year.

Won't surprise me either, except for the firing of Jones. We will probably give him a raise/extension for another 8-4 season.

Michigan does lose something like 16 starters, which will be hard to replace. Florida loses some significant starters as well, but not to the same extent. I would give this one to Florida if it were in the Swamp, but I think that Michigan will pull it out in Arlington. Just my opinion.

The Michigan game is a toss up.
But the one thing I keep thinking about is the fact that Michigan will be losing 10 of 11 starters on defense. If we find a decent QB (big if) UF should be just fine in that game.

McElwain doesn't seem bad at all at using what he has.

I don't think he recruits well enough to compete on an even field with the teams Florida expects to beat.

His class finished pretty highly last year, but I do know he signed a couple guys I'm glad we didn't.

He did get some everyone wanted, but just saying he also signed some guys that seem to be head cases.

Whatever Kirby does at Georgia in the long run, I believe he will keep on recruiting at the level he did last year. Scholarships available, I think they finish top ten every year.

Couple that with also having LSU and FSU on the schedule as teams that usually recruit better than McElwain does, I don't think it looks good.

In the long run at least. But if he strings together two or three years of say two losses to a combo of FSU/LSU/Georgia he's toast. Just don't think they will have the patience with him, if he isn't showing signs of taking them where they want to go.

Dunno maybe he manages to hire some crackerjack recruiting assistant or two. That's what it will take for him to be successful for any period of time. He doesn't seem to have the salespower to make up for any weakness at that on his staff.

Regardless it will take two or three years down there for this to play out.

Might have had something to do with having 21 different starters on defense alone. Just a wild guess tho.

Oddly enough a healthy Tennessee team spanked that arse in Neyland.
