Would that get Butch fired?
Its not improbable to think the SEC East Standings could end
1. Florida/Georgia
2. Florida/Georgia
3. Tennessee
4. Kentucky
5. Vandy
6. South Carolina
7. Mizzou
If Tennessee finished this year 3rd in the East and at less than 10 wins, how long does it take for Tennessee fans to hang Wife Beater Butch and burn his book of coaching cliches?

Probably the same likelihood of Florida firing McElwain if the Gators finish 4th or lower in the East...

Florida won't finish fourth or lower in the East ever under Jim McElwain.

Probably not. Tennessee has had 3 coaches in what, 6 seasons? Butch has recruited pretty well if you discount all the thug players. I would think he is more likely to be fired over off-field controversy than a disappointing record in upcoming season.

It would take a catastrophic losing season for Butch to be fired this year.
If it's a disappointment, he could be on the hotseat for 2017, though.

We need another five of these threads before the start of the season to hit the 3 thousand mark.
Perhaps the next thread should be: "Will Butch Jones be fired if his wife wears white after Labor Day?" or maybe "Will Butch be fired if he forgets to put the seat back down in the bathroom?"

Will Butch be fired if this... will Butch be fired if that... etc. etc. ad infinitum. Truth is, no one fricking knows.

No one knows what our records are going to be at the end of the season, who's likely to win either division, who the starting QB for certain teams will be, when RBs are going to be back from injury, etc... It hasn't stopped us from discussing hypotheticals all off-season. Don't get so ornery just because this particular thread is a negative hypothetical for your program. If you wanted to say "Again... haven't we done this already"... that would have been a much more appropriate release of your frustration.

TN better win it all!!! Hell everyone is saying they will so IF they won the East and not the National title then that will be a HUGE UPSET!!!
Vo11s will not win the east!!

Mizzou isn't finishing any lower than 4th.

Id tend to agree with that. I think usc will surprise and contend for 4th however

The negative hypothetical isn't the problem. It's that I swear slightly altered versions of this exact same thread have appeared so many times recently. Like, what is all the fuss about? I'm sure there are certain possible circumstances that could result in the firing of many SEC coaches. But Lyle is the only coach (for the most part) that this type of thread gets made about, and it happens constantly. That was my point to begin with.

This happens every year for a certain coach. Don't take it personally. He's at that cutoff where he's either going to be good, or get fired. It's happened to Miles, Bielema, Malzah, Etc. Hell its even happened to Spurrier.
It's the offseason and the easy target is the up and coming coach that is in a make it or break it year.

That would put Tennessee around 8-4. I don't think he'd be fired, but his seat would be hot come 2017. 9-3 seems like the floor this year, so that is pretty improbable.

This. I'm surprised there hasn't been more of it for Malzahn this year actually, but I suppose once the season starts we'll see if the talk track changes for any teams/coaches/fanbases.
