If one SEC team complained 50 percent more about a single referee than every other SEC school would you think it was odd?

I would assume LSU is paying the other refs

If LSU fans stopped bitching about refs would this board become a better place?

Not if it was by the best official in the conference. I would think the other refs were inferior. But I am a fan of properly officiated games like the 2014 Alabama/LSU game for example.

I would think my team should be more disciplined and not commit so many penalties. And I would think whoever figured out that stat was a paranoid loser

The real question you should be asking, is why are you committing so many penalties when Ritter is the ref?

The average SEC referee flags LSU 6.86 times for 56.6 yards (an average of 15.51 more yards than their opponents). Tom Ritter, who has refereed more LSU games than the rest of the SEC officials (7 times), has averaged penalizing LSU 10.14 times for 81.7 yards (an average of 38 more penalty yards than their opponents). "Nearly a third of LSU's penalty margin comes from the games Ritter officiates."

It's at least 150%

Could it be because Ritter refs your biggest games? They will be against your toughest opponents. You tend to commit more penalties against better teams.

Are you sure it's not just that this ref is the only one who LSU can't buy off to call less penalties?
