I know it's been asked but how did UGA not land Deshaun Watson?

What's the story?

Clemson recruited him early on (as a freshman I believe) and Georgia didn't come into the picture until it was too late.
ETA: He was an early enrollee too I believe

He became very close with Chad Morris. He was Watsons primary recruiter

This. Georgia didn't offer until the winter of his junior year. It was done by then.

Bobo dodged a bullet on that one

Mark Richt wasn't on him until too late, he and Bobo really thought that Brice Ramsey was the future and didn't bother.
That was a program changing mistake.

What has been said here is all true, but there's more to it.
He was a dual threat prospect and UGA at the time was all pro-style... to a fault... as it were.
Also, it's not just a UGA recruiting failure... there were several other schools higher profile than Clemson at the time going after him, he snubbed all of them too.

Watson would have given them at least 9 wind this year and 10 last year

The respective developments of Ramsey and Watson seriously could not have gone any worse for Georgia.

this is the correct answer.
Why doesn't LSU land every good prospect from Louisiana?
It's recruiting, win some ya lose some.

And remember this was the same UGA recruiting staff that tried to recruit Cam Newton (also from GA) as a Tight End.

And the truth is Watson would have been underutilized in Richt's offense so he was wise to stick with Clemson.

I think Auburn had a late shot at him and had him on campus for a very low key visit after he had already committed to Clemson. Some internet reporter outed him on the visit and blew that shite up. Solidified his commitment to the the taters.

FSU bought his mom a house, and he still went to Clemson.
FSU recruiting failure.
Or Clemson gave him more.

Georgia offered him as a Junior and was the only offer at QB at that time. Clearly he didn't want to come to UGA.
