Coaches typically do more harm than good when it comes to decision making, but in this case he should have fouled, while down 3.

You want as many possessions as possible, and he guaranteed his team would get one, maybe two possessions when they could have had four or five.

They only had 7 fouls at the time.

I agree, but it's just the way that it goes. They were clearly outmatched talent wise, and the fact that they were able to keep it as close as they did is very commendable. Martin has proved beyond a reasonable doubt he is a great coach just for that.

Watching the game my thought the whole time was that we were clearly outmatched by size. They have a 7'1, 300+ lb starter at center and bring in off the bench a kid who will be drafted at 7'1 that can shoot the 3. Plus a 6'8 or 6'9 kid out on the wings. That's size that really no one in the country can stand up to.

Agreed for the most part. The OP was in no way typed to take anything away from Martin. If he continues to do the same thing in similar situations in the future, ala Les Miles, then I'd have real concerns if I was a South Carolina fan.

Not really. We had the ball with a chance to tie with 12 seconds left. He had confidence our defense could get the stop and they did. If you are an offensive team then you foul. If you are a defensive team, try to get the stop.

Wrong, if anything, it's the complete opposite.

Brady did the same thing at LSU and never got back. College bball coaching is a fickle bitch.

Dude, I said that if he continued to make the same decision in the future, I would have concerns

We hold Williams--(dash) to 15 or so we win. If we had a guard fast enough to match up with him, we win. But we ain't got anyone like that.

Plus those two huge monsters dancing around in and out of the paint.

I hope the Zags win it all.

He did at the end, but I don't think you can really fault him for that.

Why didn't the USC guard (I think #4) shoot the ball with about 9 seconds left? He had 2 good looks but he then kicked the ball out and Gonzaga fouled them under 4 seconds which was the smart move.

Martin is the coach of the tournament and it's not even close. There's no such thing as a flawless coaching performance and you can nit pick anything.

North Carolina was going to have their way with SCAR anyway most likely.

I don't think it was the worst coaching decision in the history of sports. It may have worked out better to foul again and again, but all in all Martin coached well. ST being less than 100% hurt the Cocks more than coaching decisions.

Down 3, played it out. Got ball back. Problem to me was that the Gamecocks did not get into a shot quick enough with only 12 seconds left.
