Obviously the first gut reaction is to defend your school and coaches, especially when everything to this point is just accusations. But the whole situation of being in a position to have to defend someone from rape/cover up accusations just sucks.

Seriously, hope this ends quickly. Just feels slimy, either way it goes (it's true or people are lying to make money).

Don't feel too bad. They got to enjoy a nice run of offseason championships. It had to end sometime.

The way for this to end quickly is to fire Jones immediately. Anyone that attempts to defend a man that ridiculed a young man that actually stood up for girls that had been sexually assaulted is an idiot if not insane.

This is a huge embarrassment to Ut if he is allowed to stay on as Head Coach of the football program.

Does the death of Scalia and the 8 member court change things when the Tennessee rape train pulls into SCOTUS?

Again, it isn't proven. So, we're working off of allegations here. The first reaction is to claim that the allegations are false and the people making the allegations are liars, but it sucks to be put in a position to feel like you need to automatically make that claim when you really don't know either way. That's my point, really, I guess.

Is the fricking word "ALLEGEDLY" not in your fricking vocabulary?

He cannot be fired for cause simply because of an allegation.

You molest kittens. I allege it, so it's a fact.

Well... there was another school that allegations of cover-up, dismissive, and/or not investigating claims of sexual assaults... anyone remember Penn State? What happened to them?

What in the actual frick does that have to do with what I said?

fricking Mississippi education at work. No wonder your school only requires an ACT score of 16 for acceptance.

It's not difficult at all to defend the players and most especially the coach. Most are good people.

OTOH, those who raped people can rot in hell and ex-player Crowder should be chemically castrated for trying to frick a 14 year old. No one's defending those wastes of oxygen.

That said, I'm happy UT has a more even approach to student disciplinary actions (the accused having counsel is a basic right in regular courts and should be at colleges and university). Of course, I'm sure we could do better - all universities can and I hope improvements come from this though I hope we keep the right to student counsel which applies to ALL students, btw.

I also don't believe for a second that CBJ called Drae a 'traitor.' It simply doesn't pass the smell test. It's not in his DNA and anyone who has followed him knows that (of course, I know tRant doesn't pay attention to the day to day of rival coaches but despite the fact that you'll say I'm in denial etc., it's true).

Where I believe the 'traitor' comment came from was Gerald Orta's statement that he felt like Bowles had betrayed the team is where that begins and ends, imo. Like a game of telephone it spread out from there.

Dude, you should watch your blood pressure... a CVA is not worth your fandom to UT.

You said 'He (Butch) cannot be fired for cause simply because of an allegation.'

Well... in the Penn State case... the NCAA dropped the hammer and Joe Paterno was forced to 'retire' all based on 'allegations' way before Sandusky's trial and conviction.

I think everyone here admits that this all could be true but comparing the Penn State situation and how it ended to the current situation at Tennessee is really silly.

What makes V&S laughable is that he loves to dish it out but then acts like a bitch when he has to take it.

How is that silly? In both situations... Penn State and allegedly UT... the coaches were made aware of sexual assault reports in their program, and 'allegedly' they were dismissive of the claims.

unless you think that raping little boys is different from raping co-eds...

There was more substance in the Penn State situation. That doesn't mean that can't change soon but it is not on the same level yet. That can all change very soon.
