I devised a simple 2 step process to see if your SEC team failed or not.

Step 1:
If you lost to any team from the SEC East. You failed. That entire side of the conference was shite and any team that loses to an SEC East team is a disgrace.
Step 2:
If you did not win a bowl game, you failed the SEC and are a disgrace.
That's it. The only requirements to be a solid SEC team this year is to not lose to the East and to win a bowl.

Step 2:

Anyone can devise a random formula to "determine" good and bad teams.
Ex: if your team won 6 or more games in a row to end the season then you had a good year. If not, you sucked.
See? It's just arbitrary bullshite.
