I'll be honest, I didn't read his points. But, the biggest threat to football is that the concussion issue is causing a rapid decline in youth participation in football even in football crazed places like Alabama. If that trend continues, I suspect it will kill football as we know it today.

If Mexicans keep flooding into the US and breed like rats, football will eventually be taken over by soccer. Won't happen in our lifetimes though.

Pearl Jam is correct. It's about the concussion issue.

And we Mexicans frick like snakes. We don't "breed like rats".

No, it's not dying, but you make some pretty good points. The ticket prices, the way the NFL conducts business, brain conditions, and yes, many parents are now very concerned about letting their kids play football.

Edit: but one day it may die, and I can see why, but not in our lifetime.

Highly agree with this. And maybe I spoke too soon in my other post saying it's not dying, implying it's not dying at all.

20 years ago I would have let my kid play football. Today, no.

Edit: if any of you have a chance, watch 'Friday Night Tykes'.

Television can hurt attendance but there is a lot more money in it so who cares.

The bama and SEC dynasty are bad for college football and concession issue is real. ( had some bad ones)

Ticket prices are pricing middle class families out of football. Even tiger stadium is nothing like it was ten years ago because all the rapid fans have been replaced by corporate ticket holders. This has peaked and bubble will soon bust.

It may one day be like gladiators of the ancient age. Poor people playing and getting injured for the entertainment of the elite

If we re being real, that headbutt probably did not hurt at all and the only reason that guy fell is because he is playing soccer and that is what youre supposed to do because it is a game for sissy men.

football may have peaked, but I don't see it "dying" or anything close to it for the foreseeable future

This is where I fall on the issue.

There are 30,000 fewer football players nationally than there were in 2009. So the exponential growth has most definitely halted.

The sport will probably plateau for a LONG time at or somewhere not far below the current level. Which, honestly, is fine with me in the long run.

A stick and a helmet? I can see more expensive than basketball but not near as expensive as football.

Yep. I think the CTE thing will eventually kill football, not lack of appeal or popularity.

i think this is more about millennials than saban. he might be causing bama fatigue but he sure isn't causing football fatigue

I think football is most popular with those 35 and older. Younger folks like football but are into other sports, soccer etc. Once you hit your 50s you are less likely to go to games; that's why you're seeing the attendance drop. Add Bama fatigue, ticket prices, and kids who assalt women while their school covers it up and there u go.

Ticket prices are too high, concessions are too high, parking is too high. Too expensive to attend for most families.
football attendance is not just about prices. it's about the sensibilities of millennials. they just aren't as football crazy as past generations.

past generations have lucrative jobs and could afford to fund the arms race. that is shifting to the millennials who are much more entitlement oriented. they're asking what football is going to do for them instead of the other way around.

i'm not sure what you mean here. you could say cfb has never been as competitive as it is now.
