How much would a Tennessee lose to Mizzou change the narrative?

Especially for Tennessee people?

The attitude about the program seems pretty positive right now going forward. 4 losses to 4 good teams by razor thin margins, win out and win a bowl, go 9-4 and bring back most of the core for a big 2016.

Would a loss to Missouri dampen that and bring back the Butch doubt?

I already have my doubts on him. He is not a very good game day coach and he consistently make excuses. That being said he has brought in a ton of talent and we are better off overall. But I just don't see him making us an elite team. The play calling from this staff is just terrible and you can't be a great team in this league with that kind of coaching.

Not only that, but losing to the black hat villians of the SEC and letting all their fine southern neighbors down in the process?

It's going to sting really bad.

I already doubt him, as does a lot of the fanbase, a loss to either of our next 2 opponents will do nothing but confirm those doubts.

Losing to Missouri is inexcusable. Fire the man on the spot if it happens. Make him turn every piece of hideous orange gear he has. Flog him. Tar him. Feather him. Etc and so forth.

The should have happened to boom after the GA Southern game.

There have been some good signs and some bad signs. He has temporarily regained a bit of my trust since the UGA win, but we must win out if he wants to keep that headed into 2016. I'm still skeptical for sure. 8-4 was the baseline expectation for this year, and we hit it if we just win 2 games we're supposed to. It is a little worrisome to see Mizzou beginning to play with some fire now, and back-to-back lackluster wins for us the past few weeks.

It sucks to think this way, but at the least he has resolidified the foundation of the program. Players are graduating, making good grades, seem to be staying out of trouble for the most part, very good talent, mended the relationships with the high schools in state, etc.

So, if you go 8-4, 8-4 and decide to can him the job will be much more enviable than post-Dooley. On the flip side, I have to imagine the pressure to keep him around will be high due to the public image problem firing a guy who has clearly been the best since Fulmer would be.

Although this would be an overraction imo, his seat should be burning hot headed into 16 if he loses one of the next 2, with the stipulation of double-digit wins or don't let the door hit ya on the way out.

If VOLS win out to finish 9-4, I would bet my house that we will be heavy favorites in the east next year with nearly all of our roster returning. Butch will be out of excuses and it will be time to produce hardware not moral victories.

He's good at most everything except in-game coaching. And he's coached a few good games too. But he also cost us the East this year. People thought this was an 8-4 level team, but truthfully Butch and staff have developed the team to about a 10-2 level. Unfortunately, the poor ingame decisions have brought it back down. Most UT fans, including myself, still don't know what to make of Butch, but remain cautiously optimistic. FWIW, Tennessee held on to win against UGA and SC, rather than blowing it. And I don't really call a short-lived 1 point lead against probably the best team in the nation "blowing it."

I agree, that Tennessee team is the 3rd most talented team we have played this season across the board behind Ole Miss and LSU, and depth wise they are probably #2 behind LSU.

There was a noticeable difference in the speed and talent level this season compared to the last 5 or 6.

The other thing I noticed was that they played lights out balls to the wall hard every second of every play. It was really impressive.

Wouldn't bet on us being favorites with Mac and UF coming back as reigning champs. But we should be right there with them and will have a chance to get it done. I would like our chances if I thought we could likely beat them h2h, but at this point that's something I need to see to believe.

12enessee is going to be really tough to adjust to I think.

I still very much doubt Lyle's coaching aptitude. I would venture to guess that many feel the same way.

We have talent for sure, but the majority of our best players are young. I don't remember the exact stat, but I think our top 9 highest rated players coming out of HS are all frosh and sophs. We've also had a shitload of injuries at positions where our depth isn't the best, such as both lines. Feels like we have about 10 or 12 players out for the year. If Butch knew how to manage a game with a lead in the 4th, esp early in the season, we could be looking at an East title and a NY6 bowl. Also, it should be mentioned that the lights out balls to the wall mentality isn't always there. For example, D played at a Bama 1/9/12 level Saturday (N Texas never crossed the UT 45) but outside of Kamara, the offense seemed to be in a deep coma against a bad defense. That was kinda frustrating.

We can beat you motherfrickers next year for sure, esp. without Grier. Then again Harris has also been a frickin hero against us... Sooner or later your luck has to run out though, and maybe it is next year, but there's some weirdass voodoo in this series. Doesn't help when our coach calls the worst half of his career.
