Not true of all of them
Virtually all of them, yes. The only exception is the 1966 Orange Bowl in which we played #3 Nebraska in a de facto national championship game.
The AP had decided to wait until after the post-season to award its national championship trophy for the '65 season. So when #1 and #2 went down, #3 Nebraska vs. #4 Alabama became the battle for the AP's coveted trophy.

rose bowl was not the NC game.
Yes, it was, as.....

It was the PAC champ vs the east.
The Rose Bowl Committee did its best to find the best team from the east to play the best team from the west. So if the PAC champion, the champions of western football, is playing the best team from back east, doesn't that make it a de facto national championship game of sorts?

quote:Pretty close. Subtract 4 for the BCS/Coalition titles because they're the same and the coaches trophies..... so, 35 or so.
So 39?
That's not counting our Rose Bowl titles before the poll era. & I don't count 1941.

And we're #2 in national title hardware.

Speaking of which, it's been named after Bryant since 1983. That means Auburn and Tennessee have trophies honoring him on their campus.

Just count the poll titles, so we avoid this 12 times every offseason.

Works for me.
Alabama: 11
Florida: 3
LSU: 3
Auburn: 2
Tennessee: 2
Georgia: 1

Ole Miss: 1
Texas A&M: 1

No doubt they've won more than anyone else and deserve credit for that but what is the real number?

We've won more in the last 10 years than any other team in the SEC in their entire history.

Pretty strong. And won as many as the rest of the "big six" combined if you look at AP titles.

I know, I know, reality hurts. Its OK. Trust me, your mild erection will not fade when you admit Alabama was second best one year.

Like 6. If college football had a playoff, maybe less

One. 2015.
The rest were claimed, not won.

Nobody can tell you how many titles they really have won. They are all tainted in some way.

So
Alabama - 1
Non Bama SEC - 0
Either way, it falls the same way

According to WildTchoupitoulas, only 3 college teams in division 1 have won the national championship - Ohio State Bama, & Clemson.
LSU in their 123 year history have never won the national championship, & neither has any other team except the big 3.
