I know we are patiently waiting for Saban to retire (minus Alabama fans), but how long can this guy really keep going?

5 more years easily. Although we won't win as often, any dumbass that thinks we'll all the sudden start losing needs to wake up and smell what they're shoveling.

Until his body shuts down?

He's 65. Les Miles is 63. Mike Riley is 64. Kirk Ferentz is 61. Mark Dantonio is 61.

Paterno was forced out at 84. Bowden retired at 80. Beamer retired at 68. Bryant retired at 68.

My guess is probably somewhere between 3-6 more years, but it wouldn't shock me that if he was still successful and not falling behind if he stayed until he was 75.

As long as he is in good health. I know the toll it takes on a coach winning at such a high level even in high school football especially in the south, so if he's in good health he's good. The person I feel sorry for is the poor coach that comes behind him

Just as dumb it is for anyone to attempt to guess how much longer Saban will coach it is just as dumb to assume that Alabama will keep rolling once he retires. The only thing the new coach will have going for him is that he will be coaching with Saban's players.

I don't care who the new coach will be. Saban is a once in a life time coach and the new coach will be in a no win situation. How did all the coaches fair that followed Bear Bryant? Yeah I'm sure Alabama fan thought that train would keep rolling as well.

No reason to feel bad for Swinney.

I seriously doubt he'll leave Clemson. What he been through there to get them to National Champions is great. Just the next coach is going to be under so much pressure his damn head might explode

As long as he wants, maybe another NC or 2 would send him off into the sunset.

Saban stays and goes as long as his competitive juices are flowing. I believe that the man wants to pass Bryant in Nattys at one school and in overall Nattys.

As a BAMA grad, I feel sorry for who comes next. He will win because of the collected talent on the roster, but the true pressure will come from having to win at such a high volume and keep the cupboard stocked from being a recruiting machine that Saban is. For this, I don't see Dabo taking the job should he be offered. I could see him waiting until it came open later. Easier to replace the man that replaces THA MAN!! Just don't be some guy named Bill Curry.

Whoever is hired will not be mentally weak but will have an ego and resume to match. Heads will not explode.

Coach Bryant wanted Gene Stallings to succeed him, but the administration opted for Ray Perkins who was an ego-ridden arrogant frick. A momentary take-over of the University by the academic professors in mid-'80s then led to Bill Curry, Georgia-fricking Tech - Bobby Dodd product to be hired. That wussy metro-sexual yellow-jacket terrorist promised a "de-emphasize and change" the football program in favor of the academic mission. As soon as the revolt of the peasant professors was crushed, the new president understood how important beating Auburn was and restored order by firing Curry.

Saban will coach until the teams recruiting against him start getting traction with the "he won't be there when you are still a player" line. This is one of the things that led Coach Bryant to retire - the other being he recognized the end of the wishbone era and didn't have the energy to totally re-tool, get different coaches, recruit different players, etc.

I suspect Saban is good until about age 72. Notice he can still throw a pretty tight spiral and play basketball at age 65.

But Alabama will continue to dominate because they will find the right coach. If you think Saban is unique in history, you don't know the history of Alabama. Wallace Wade, Frank Thomas, Bear Bryant, and Gene Stallings say hello.

From Wikipedia: "12 coaches have led the Crimson Tide in postseason bowl games: Wallace Wade, Frank Thomas, Harold Drew, Paul "Bear" Bryant, Ray Perkins, Bill Curry, Gene Stallings, Mike DuBose, Dennis Franchione, Mike Shula, Joe Kines, and Saban.[5] Eight of those coaches also won conference championships: Wade captured four as a member of the Southern Conference and Thomas, Drew, Bryant, Curry, Stallings, DuBose, and Saban won a combined 23 as a member of the SEC.[6] During their tenures, Wade, Thomas, Bryant, Stallings, and Saban each won national championships with the Crimson Tide."
