How lethal would LSU be with Dan Mullen as head coach?

And let's assume Dave Aranda is still Defensive Coordinator.

The quarterback whisperer himself, eliminating LSU's only weakness over the last decade.

They would whoop on up on some FCS teams and then become shadows during big games. Mullen has a terrible record in games vs. Top 25.

Reckon that might have to do with their lack of talent? Not everyone can afford to drop bags of cash at recruits' doors and pay for hookers.

At LSU, he'd have all the talent he needs.

Right, the question is if he were at LSU with LSU's talent.

I wouldn't hold anything against Mullen, he's put time in the 10year Coach Rule and served MSU well.

But, Dan at LSU would drive me out of CFB. I'd find something else to do in the fall & just ignore cfb

Mullen already changes DCs too quickly and the LSU D would suffer.

Still not convinced. Talent doesn't equal an elite team (see Auburn, Texas A&M, Tennessee, etc.) From a coaching standpoint, I can't recall a single position group that Mullen has recruited overly well at besides QB (maybe DL), nor can I recall a position group that he has coached particularly well besides QB (maybe RB).

Mullen can't recruit at MSU like he could at LSU, but, as State fans have said and proved in the past few days, State has talent (multiple 4*, couple of 5*), yet Mullen still can't seem to win big games on a consistent basis. Not even a fairly consistent basis.

I'll hang up and listen, Paul.

Let me also ask this - Mullen is 6-30 vs. Top 25 teams in his 8 seasons at State (16.7% winning percentage). Do you really think that a coach who currently wins less than 1 out of every 5 big games would go to LSU and make them a championship contender every year?

Most of the changes are due to guys taking "better" jobs though, right? Collins went to Florida. Diaz went to Miami. Sirmon did get fired or not renewed though. You can argue about whether Miami is a better job than MSU, but Diaz is from Miami. Mullen wouldn't have to worry about guys upgrading at LSU.

I think Mullen would be a great coach for a school like LSU that recruits itself.

He's a good coach, just not a dynamic recruiter. LSU, Florida, they don't need those.

Manny Diaz actually left for Texas. Texas is an immensely better job.

Mullen is a good QB developer but is overrated as a game day coach. He makes questionable personnel decisions based solely (seemingly) on seniority and coaches way too conservatively in big games. He does his best not to not get blown out in big games rather than trying to actively win the game.

I mean, he just went 5-7 in like year 8 or something.

Would take Dan over Jimbo, TBH. Jimbo looks lost at times, and he doesn't have an excuse.

As lethal as a sock with a kitten in it. Mullen has no chest.

He left for Texas after the 2012 season then ended up back at MSU for only the 2015 season before heading to Miami. Don't try correcting me. I'm a nerd. I did my (minimal) research.
