Sounds like you are completely fine with this as it seems like you're supporting JBE in this matter.
TOPS and shutting down schools should be the very last thing that should be shutdown. PERIOD.

The question is not how will they pay coaches.
Its that the players will not be academically eligible if the University closes and the players get incompletes.
Funny thing about college football, the university actually has to be open to students.

If you actually believe that their is even a possibility of this happening you aren't very smart.
This is a political move. Making a statement that LSU might close down gets all of the headlines. In an attempt to get the public to approve a tax increase.

Explanation simple

Makes a emotional speech and mentions football to scare Louisiana voters.
I actually do believe this is the most logical explanation. A lot of people do not realize how dependent Louisiana economy is on oil.
However, I think if I were a Louisiana resident I would take a longer look at who i voted for that wants to threaten and coerce his constituents this way.

I didn't start the thread, so maybe you need to "come correct", nor did I say anything about who/what pays for what. I just paraphrased a fact. The LA Gov did go on TV and threaten that LSU might not have a football season for financial reasons. Again, that actually happened.
It even made mention of it on the "Sports Reporters" again Sunday AM on ESPN.
So mad. So STFU ans go roll some pennies so that LSU can play ball with the rest of us this fall and lose their 6th straight to UA.
Between LSU being too poor and Ole Miss getting the DP, UA and the rest of the West are going to have to schedule teams from the East or the SEC will have to expand two more teams to the West. Y'all are fricking up the rotation.

Maybe soneone should explain it to the LA Governor. He's the one on TV talking about how LSU is too poor to play football.
Actually he is trying to strong arm the state to approve his tax increases with something that he knows people love (LSU football). It's actually pretty sad attempt by a man just elected to that position after running a campaign that he would not raise taxes. Bottom line is you would have to be one dumb S.O.B. if you believe that LSU won't be playing football next year. The people would have him stuffed in a crab trap in Lake Ponchatrain should that ever happen. Sadly republicans bought into this democrats lies he was campaigning on and that's what ultimately got him elected. But don't worry the Tigers will take the field as usual.

he said if the university closed due to financial reasons athletes would receive incompletes and be ineligible for athletics. he never once said anything about the athletic department having financial issues.
it's crazy that such a simple concept can be so confusing to people. it's like people legitimately can't understand the difference.
of course the university will never close but please at least try to be intelligent enough to understand his threat. it's not asking a lot.

And what, pray tell is the difference?

Forget it. Some people just are too dumb to understand things.
If your point is there is no net difference and the end result is still no lsu football that's fine but that isnt what i was replying to.
Someone wrote "someone should explain that to the LA governor" like he doesnt know the difference between academia debt and athletic.

Nor did I. I didn't mention the AD.
I also don't believe it would ever happen but I would be pissed of our Gov went on TV saying that if only because of recruiting. One of the crazier things I've ever seen, much less heard of happening.
But a mere mention of it triggers 3 pages of mad.

Ok Mongos, this just seems to be too far above all of your heads. Let me try explaining it in a fashion you might understand. Football guy must go to class. If no class, no football. Football make lots, and lots of money but no class means no football since football guy can't get smart while playing the football. Football not being shut down, but no school means football players are not able to play because the NAACP say so. Make football guy very ANGRY! Hope that helps.

Sure you did. You replied to someone saying the athletic department makes a lot of money with "maybe someone should explain that to the LA governor".
The LA governor knows the difference, you apparently didn't even though you are pretending you did all along.

Apparently, the football team is going to keep playing if the actual University were to close.
They are streamlining the process and getting the whole academic part out of the way.

Does seem weird that the one entity that makes money for a cash strapped University is the one being threatened to be shut down. And if they are privately funded, why would the governor even think about shutting it down? I'm not dismissing the LSU fan explanations. They certainly know more about the inner workings than I do, but it just seems unusual.
He's doing the same thing Joe Alleva did with Miles. Instead of being professional, he is dangling the nuclear option out there to see how the public reacts to it. Unfortunately, just like Alleva, JBL has failed to understand the PR nightmare that is left in the wake of such comments and actions.

I don't give a shite about the difference because I didn't believe it when I heard it. I did find it surprising, unbelievable, and humorous. But I'm also not the Gov so I just figured he would know more about it than me.
If LSU plays they play, if they don't they don't. Doesn't change what I've got going on today either way.
