How many times does it have to be explained that the athletic budget is 100% raised by private funds and donates several million back to the university each year, Read for god's sake

$7 million big ones last year to be exact. Great plan by the governor to get everyone's attention. No worries, LSU football will be here for a long long time.

The governor has to try to balance a budget. Unlike Alabama, where toothless inbreds are satisfied w/ their lot in life, as long as they can mouth/gum "Rawl Todd," some Louisiana residents want to receive basic state services.

First of all he's FOS, second of all, he was talking about the university having to shut down because of lack of funding for academia, NOT sports.

Doesn't the sports entity rely on its affiliation with the school to even exist? I doubt that even an emasculated NCAA led by a former L U official would allow football to go on if the school shuts down.

Well then.

Anyone who thinks that the governor is going to shutdown every university in the state if he doesn't get his way on raising taxes is an even bigger idiot.

He clearly didn't state that he would be closing them down. If our budget issues are not resolved over the next three weeks they will be forced to close due to inadequate funds. You should really look up how the government works and how finances work.

If he was deficient enough to attempt, this he would be recalled. Do we have to discuss the lasting impact of shutting down higher education in a state that ain't exactly knocking it out of the park with education to begin with?

I think most people understand the implications of losing our higher education. The problem is no one seems to understand that we cannot solve this situation by only cutting the budget. Cutting the budget where we can should be first but we will have to find ways to increase revenue as well. Every single proposal from Treasurer Kennedy amounts to $500 million in savings, that is $400 million short of solving just this year's deficit.

However, I think if I were a Louisiana resident I would take a longer look at who i voted for that wants to threaten and coerce his constituents this way.

If he were running today he would not get elected after that statement. He has 4 years to redeem himself, for the record I would not vote for him in the past and for sure not in the future.

He's only an idiot because he has a "D" next to his name. NCAA student athletes are required to be enrolled in a university with particular academic requirements. JBE clearly stated that if our budget issues go unresolved that universities or particular programs will be forced to close. Do you get it yet?

LSU is never going to even be temporarily shut down. There are too many bad things that will happen in the state if LSU goes away. This goes beyond football anger.

He used hyperbole so that people will pay attention. Things will happen in next year to avert the crisis.

Politics 101 in Louisiana Rule 1: Always elect the dumber guy. Dumb political decisions define who and what Louisiana is.

What's sad is that it isn't just the Rant, it's a lot of regular people who are ignorant about this. Our state (La) is seriously overdrawn, there just isn't enough money to keep doing what they have been. This has nothing to do with party affiliations, it has to do with incompetent government as a whole (we're used to that here, which is why so many people have just ignored it up til now).

Edwards made a grandstanding speech to get people's attention; if nothing else it should shake things up a little. It's clear that even those who ignore politics are up in arms about "fooh ball", and he's hoping those folks will light a fire under the legislature's asses to make sure we keep our team.
