Gary Wunderlich, looked at his stats and he has a lot higher FG percentage than I would have thought (76%, which is why I edited)

Went 19-25 on FG last year and 63-63 on PAT's. He's definitely better than our previous kicker but he's nothing amazing.

How good is our returning kicker?

Pardon me while I break into hysterical laughter that quickly turns into sobs and an evening spent polishing off a bottle of whiskey to try and wipe the terrible, terrible, memories from my mind.

Winderlich ought to be a Groza and Ray Guy candidate. I feel good about our kicking game.

Carlson has the best leg I've seen at Auburn.

And the guy before him, Cody Parkey, made the Pro Bowl as a rookie with the Eagles going 32-36 and is perfect from 50+ in the NFL. Parkey kicking a kickoff through the uprights of the field goal posts was common at Auburn... And Carlson still has a better leg.

Carlson is the best K in CFB right now. Frac the World may have thought he was making a joke asking if Carlson is Auburn's best player, but Carlson would be the best player on most CFB teams.

Iron Bowl stats:

Griffith 5/5 fg (long of 50) and 2/2 xp for 17 pts

Carlson 2/3 fg (long of 44, missed from 48) and 1/1 xp for 7 pts

Our FG kicker could kick a ball through a car wash and it wouldn't get wet.

I'm sure if we are terrible he will be nails. If we are doing really well he will be a huge liability.

It isn't good, but it isn't quite the disaster that people like to portray.

58/58 XP-- not bad

8/11 from inside 40-- not great, but serviceable.

1/4 from 40+ -- bad, but given how bad our special teams were at block setting at times, understandable.

Griffith was spot on near the 2nd half of the year.
He dominated in the Iron Bowl last year. Hope that was an anomaly

How the hell do you "dominate" a FG kicker?

Nobody knows, all his kicks get blocked
In all fairness, he did make some PATs.

To answer the OP, we won't know if improvements have been made until the season starts. Last year though, the field goal chant was "oh, frick!"

"Griffith 5/5 fg (long of 50) and 2/2 xp for 17 pts" - dominant performance. Griffith "dominated" the football game

Hope this helps
