How does the rest of the country view the SEC?

Just moved west a few months ago.. The friends we've met all said they just always thought people from the south were nice and welcoming.. I honestly think the "dumb redneck" label is just a NE thing for the most part.

well i work with mostly big 12 fans and i still have to remind most of them that vandy is in the SEC

Lot of the west and NE think the SEC fans are trailer trash. Sites like Deadspin and Busted Coverage will never miss the opportunity to portray us as such as well. Oh well, no skin off my back.
It's always great to read the opinion pieces from student newspaper writers though when they are gushing over their experiences while visiting SEC stadiums.

The vast majority of those people wouldn't know what you're talking about if you asked them about the SEC. Most folks probably couldn't name the vice president right now.

I don't know about the rest of the country, but where I live (the PNW), when it does come up, which is extremely rare, they admire the SEC as a football brand, and that's it. I don't think they even know Vandy is in the conference, though.
