How do you all rationalize LSU fan's perception of their team?

I am trying to find the most logical explanation for so many LSU fans being so damn confident.
Right now I think it's most likely the fact that their games are often at night. This means the average fan is so hammered from tailgating all day that they are no longer able to critically analyze their team's in game performances.
What do you all think?
