How do/would AU fans feel about Gus Malzahn?

If AU got blown out by OU in the Sugar Bowl?
Both of his best seasons (one as an OC), the QB was a transfer from another SEC school. All other seasons were mediocre at best.
I personally think it starts with the athletic director. Jay is an awful AD and it's shown over the years.

He sucks. Winning or losing in the sugar bowl won't change that

I'm not sold on Gus. This Sugar Bowl will tell where the program is headed since all our major injuries should be healed.
The above quote is dead nuts though.

Why is it nuts? Jacobs has hired Chizik and Malzahn as HFC.

Shouldn't read too much into results of a bowl game like this. One team or the other may just not show up, and there's not always much the HC can do about that.
Walking back to my hotel after Sugar Bowl vs. Utah, a 60-something year old Utah fan asked me with a laugh if we Bama fans wanted some of that money back that we had paid Saban.

I hope to hell nobody takes a single game after a month layoff as an indication on Gus one way or the other.
Any thoughts developed over the previous 4 seasons are fine, though

I like him. He recruits well. Kids aren't kidnapping people. Outside of 2015, the on field results have been acceptable. AU was top 5 in Nov of 2014. Had they been healthy all year, we would have been playing UA for the west this year. The deficiencies on D have been addressed. His largest mistake was missing on JJ. He culls bad eggs like D. Craig that cause issues on the coaching staff. Outside of Saban, there isn't a coach out there that could do better ATM.

I think he's doing just fine consdering he's coaching across the state from one of the greatest dynasties in college football history.
I thought Auburn was a 9-10 win team in 2014 and 2016 but injuries conspired to kill both seasons.
My only complaint is the QB situation. Killed his teams off the jump because of QB development or the lack thereof.

He's not a great coach.
Don't think he sucks but I think Auburn could have hired better. He has a lot to learn about coaching at this level.

Based on titles the last 5yrs, he's the 2nd best coach in the league. Other than not realizing JJ couldn't play QB, he seems to do well. It seems he has found a way to recruit defensive players and field an above avg d. He hasn't been able to put the d and o together in a single season. If that happens, by golly, he could be the best coach.

I'm surprised more AU fans don't have any issues with Gus' play calling, roster management, or lack of QB development.

Assuming he's not desert food somewhere, I bet he doesn't think that shite's funny now.
