How desperate was Gus to "fix" the Auburn defense?

Keep in mind this is for the nation #89 defense which by the way is worse than the 2014 defense that was #66 in the land. LOL:

$1 million dollar buyout if leaves before SEC CG

$0 buyout if he leaves after SEC CG

BUT...if Auburn fires him before 12/31/2017, they owe him $3.5 million

Auburn fans might as well triple down on Gus. He's going to be there for a few more years:

"Will Muschamp's lucrative contract at Auburn is also favorable for the defensive coordinator if he chooses to pursue another job in the near future.

The defensive coordinator could pursue a head coaching opportunity in early December with no concern for financial penalty, according to the three-year deal released Wednesday to AL.com through an open records request.

Muschamp only owes Auburn a buyout of $1 million if he leaves before the end of the regular season or the SEC Championship game on Dec. 5 if Auburn advances to Atlanta this season. After that, Muschamp is free to pursue other employment opportunities at no cost to him.

Muschamp's $5.1 million contract includes a small buyout for the coach, but the potential of a large one for the school.

Unless Muschamp is found to have broken NCAA or SEC rules, the defensive coordinator will be paid the full value of the contract by Auburn if he is fired before Dec. 31, 2017. The payment, totaling as much as $3.5 million if fired in December, must be made within 30 days."

I don't see why the Muschamp thing really effects them. They don't care about paying coaches to go away (or their staffs).

Also, anybody with 2 eyes and a brain can tell you the 2015 Auburn defense is much better than the 2014 version. Not even close, really.

Muschamp was fantastic this year from mid-October on and he's the only reason you are sniffing Atlanta this year.the

In our last three SEC games we allowed essentially 3 TDs.

1 was after the game was pretty much over against Texas AM.

1 was after weakest facemask call in history against UGA (though it was the right call) on 3rd down.

1 was after Coker escaped multiple defenders twice in the same drive once on 3rd and long meaning Muschamp had our guys in position to make a play.

I know A&M and UGA are bad offensively but our defenses the last 5-6 years would never have had to capability to go on a run like that against anybody.

The #Auburn defense allowed 24 touchdowns this season during 8 conference games. This was the fewest TD's surrendered since 2008.

McElwain sure is enjoying his Muschamp recruits.

Yea, the 2014 Auburn defense were fundamentally awful. Never in the right spot, didn't tackle well, overran everything.

The 2015 Auburn defense wasn't great, but they tackled pretty well, didn't run around like chickens with their heads cut off and played hard. They were a very average unit, but that was a massive upgrade from 2014 (or first part of 2015).

Gave up the least amount of TDs in conference since 2008. But you're right, he sucks and our defense has clearly regressed. How's Mac done with that offense of yours? Huh? How's that offense? See where you scored two points Saturday? Was that the offense? No? It wasn't? No? Oh that's right it was Muschamps defense.

ETA: Serraneaux you dick. Making me think it was a gator fan that started this thread. You're silly. You're silly.

McElwain (an offensive coach) came in and somehow made Florida's offense worse than it ever was.

The last 4 SEC games

27 pts vs Ole Miss
10 pts vs A&M
13 pts vs UGA (7 were on a punt return)
29 pts vs Alabama

20 pt average per game. Once he broke them of their miserable tendencies about halfway through the year they played pretty average.

I'm obviously not arguing that Muschamp is some sort of savior, but if you watched the second half of their season it was pretty clear their guys were fundamentally light years better than the years before and the first half of the season. They wore down against Ole Miss, UGA and Alabama, but for 3 quarters they played about as well as you could possibly expect from a team with so-so defensive talent like that.

Offseason champs.

Looking to win the east for the 9th straight year. Will battle the hogs for the overall title.

Right on.

Muschamp's fixed the X's and O's problem. The only reason they aren't statistically better is because he's still got a Jimmys and Joes problem.
