and for how long if they get hit with similar penalties as Alabama did back in 2002?

In 2002, Bama was hit with this punishment from the NCAA:
*5-year probation
*21 scholarship losses
*2-year postseason ban

Here is Alabama's records by year in the years that followed:

2002: 10-3
2003: 4-9
2004: 6-6
2005: 10-2
2006: 6-7
2007: 7-6

Bama finally "came back" in Saban's second season which was 2008.

So once the effects of probation finally set in, it essentially sidelined Alabama for 5 seasons. Bama went 33-30 from 2003-2007. It took hiring Nick Saban and him bringing in two stellar recruiting classes for Bama to finally crawl back up to relevance.

All indications point to Ole Miss getting hit with similar penalties.

So if it affected Bama... with all of its resources and history... for 5 seasons, and if it took hiring arguably the GOAT coach to come out of it, how long will it take Ole Miss to overcome similar probation?

My guess is Ole Miss has 3-9 type seasons for a decade straight. I mean Ole Miss went 44-64-3 (40.99%) from 1976-1985, which ranks as their worst decade of football in the modern era. The next decade could be worse than that.

If we get 2 season ban we will suck for a few years. 1 post season ban (self imposed) we will be able to hover around 6-6 for a few years. It's 50-50 on whether we get a 2nd year. The rant will laugh and say I'm full of shite.

If the penalty is the same....

It will take them 10 years to break .500 in any given season, unless they cheat some more.....

Bama....lots of rust and mechanical work to be done....Saban got it done like only 1 or 2 others could have.

OM......radioactive...untouchable...commitment and resources not there....LOOONG road ahead.

That shite we got was a tough pill to swallow. And the way the NCAA handled that investigation with fricking "secret witnesses" was ludicrous.

One rogue Booster can damage a program for a decade. Multiple rogue Boosters + an Asst AD working with Boosters from the inside can totally cripple a program.

If Ole Miss is so bad, why are you worried about their sanctions? They raped UGA last year so I'd pick a new team to troll

I guess I should say, How long will it be before they can put together two consecutive 8-4 seasons or better? I think that would be "good" for Ole Miss during the modern era.

With 20+ scholarship losses, I just don't see them being able to do that for a decade or more.

As an ole miss fan, I'm genuinely interested in reading about all these indications OP mentioned. If someone could link those for me so I can be an educated fan I'd appreciate it.

Ole Miss will go back to being Ole Miss. Everyone has their pecking order in the world that they need to embrace. Alabama will never be UK or UNC in basketball. The best we can hope for is to become a consistent top 25 team that makes the tourney most years. We've accepted that.

Ole Miss football fans need to accept that 7-5 is about the type of program they are, with an occasional run when the stars align for them. Stop trying to be Alabama or LSU in football. It's not your place, just accept it. It will make life more enjoyable for all of us. See you at the bottom of the standings where you belong, Ole Miss.

You are already self imposing 1 year and 15 schollies, I'd say its not unfair to assume more could be coming and the bama numbers arent that far off

They are definitely getting more than they self-imposed.

That's rich considering Alabama is in the middle of arguably the greatest dynasty in CFB history. Such an Ole Miss thing to say.

As much as I hate to, I have to agree with this. Its not like Ole Miss was some blue blood powerhouse program prior to 2013. These NCAA sanctions will most likely sting for a year or 2, but I'm sure we'll be back to going anywhere from 3-9 to 9-3 for a long time again.

Although I hope Freeze can still find a way to be competitive with Bama. Even if we lose, it's more enjoyable for both sides to be close like last years match, rather than getting blown out by 5+ scores

Edit: We'll still whoop State's arse like usual though, that wont change

I think sanctions will be more severe than those you listed.
Re: bounce-back time ... we're 30 years removed from the SMU funeral, and they still haven't recovered.
It'll take OM 7-10 years, at a minimum, to experience a season where they win more games than they lose.

Wow, between thus and grey reb talking about in putting fear back in bama fans yesterday, the delusion is really starting to get out of control
