We had a coach that didn't know how to spell defense after Nutt. I think 6 of those 7 have came under Bielema.

aside from john l. i would say petrino and bielema are superior coaches to nuttster. even petrino should be sending more defensive guys to the league than a clown like nutt.

It may be because it was a long time ago, but I don't remember Nutt's defenses ever being outright bad, and at least for 2 or 3 seasons were good/very good. Since then, we've had a decent defense in '10 and '11, a good/great defense in 2014, and everything else has been shite.

So we weren't Arkansas when Nutt was here? Doesn't make sense in the context of the thread.

I can't remember Nutt having a bad defense. He jacked around with the offense too much and UA fans called him the QB killa, but he knew you had to field a solid D in this league.

Yeah if Nutt had a balanced offense like we did under Petrino in 2010 or in 2015 under Enos then he probably actually would have won an SEC title. We just can't ever put the two parts together at the same time.

I loved Nutt in the SEC. His antics on the sidelines were unadulterated comedy.

Nutt had some below average defenses, but nowhere near as bad as what we had last season.

The year our defense gave up 70 at Southern Cal, our defense was lost. The next season we gave up 50 to USC in Fayetteville, but we were good enough to win the West.

Nutt never really had a dominant D-line. We were average at D-line and usually pretty solid at LB and DB.

Nutt got tangled up in a recruiting circus when Malzhan basically held him hostage with the Springdale 5 bunch. A contingent of Arky fans had daggers for him after that charade fell apart.

Nutt's biggest problem was that he refused to hire an OC and could not recruit and develop a QB to save his life.

He had three decent QB's in his coaching career. Two were not recruited by him and were developed by someone else (Stoerner and Snead). The other (Jones) was just a magician.

If the 2006 and 2007 teams even had a serviceable QB, they would've won the SEC. Casey Dick completed less than 50% of his passes in 2006. He went 3 of 17 for 29 yards vs. LSU in a great game.

That was his ego getting in the way. His ego also got him in a few other situations, and continues to cause him to show his insecurities when talking about his career.

shite happens. Clearly the need to recruit better and infuse some talent.

A&M had that problem with Fran & Sherman when it came to defense. Outside of Von there wasn't a lot of talent.

As "meh" as our D has been we had 3 guys drafted in the 1st 3 rounds this past year.

.Well when you lose a coach if that caliber, you revert back to your program capabilities
