Obviously this is the rant, so most will say yes because he rapes sharks, or some butter tooth comment.

However; some will give real answers. I am very much on the fence with Mac.

Let's look the positives and negatives(trying to do it objectively)

PROS

Sec coach of the year 2015
Back to Back East titles
MWC conference coach of the year 2014
Overall pretty strong record, 20-9

Beats teams he should. Only one loss to teams with less blue chip talent(Arkansas)

13-1 vs the SEC East - Really has taken ownership of the division while rebuilding Florida.

Strong recruiting classes coming in. Top five likely this year and has the number 1 overall in 2019 right now. It took him awhile, but it seems he has started to get his feet wet, and is recruiting at the level expected at Florida.

Has really improved the facilities and the structure of the Florida football program overall. If anything, Mac would make a hell of an AD.

Likeable personality - Maybe opposing teams don't like him. But it seems his players love him. Add in I have met him twice, once for three hours financing an offroad vehicle for him, and he is really fun to hang out with.

Negatives:
Keeping Doug Ness: Don't understand how this man still has a job. No OC in the country has done less with the talent he has(Michigan and Florida). It's just baffling.

Record vs elite teams - 2-7. Just not good enough. He gets down right slaughtered vs better opponents(Michigan x2, Bama x2, FSU x2).

Stubborn. Kind of seems like he is not big on changing the plan, even if it isn't working. Showed a lot in him keeping Nuss and Nord. Needs to accept things aren't working and change them at some point.

Offensive woes : He was bought in to fix UF's offense. Statistically, it is worse than it was before he got here. Yes. On paper, Muschamp's offense was better.

Recruiting the first few years - UF has a total of two five stars on it's roster. That. Is. Mind. Blowing. 37 percent blue chip ratio is the lowest UF has had since 2002 when Rivals started doing ratings.

Game planning - Very few games would you watch and say he out coached another coach. That is an issue to me.

Year 3- Still the same issues, and he has had enough time to right the ship. You can only use "Muschamps players" excuse for a year or MAYBE two. This is now his team. Still struggle to get calls in on offense. Still make to many mental errors. Still struggling to call and adapt functioning game plans. Seems like he needs to get it fully together now. Modern CFB you don't need six years to build a program, especially one like UF.

So I am on the fence with Mac. I see flashes that he could be an elite coach. I think he has to have the talent to win though. If he keeps the current class, builds on the stud freshman we have. I can see UF being very, very good next year.

BUT, he has to fire Nuss.

If Mac hasn't let Nuss go by the end of the year, I am kind of done with him. He has done enough for me to not call for his head completely, but at some point he is too similar to Mark Richt. Need to see a lot more positive momentum in the program this year to show we are becoming elite.

Your thoughts?

TL:DR - Dudes good, but is he good enough?

Save the he sucks nonsense though, his record indicates he is a decent coach. it's more, is he good enough for a top ten program like UF?

If recruiting were better and I thought he'd get rid of Nuss, I could see keeping him.

But, send him packing for sure if he loses to UK.

This years class is one of the better offensive classes we have had since the Tebow one. So I give him credit for bringing in recruiters finally. Nord and Nuss must go though, I agree.

You guys are stuck in a weird Twilight Zone with the shark molester.

On one hand he's not very good in big games outside the SEC East and you just feel it in your soul he won't bring home a national title.

On the other hand he's somehow just good enough to keep winning the SEC East.

If Kentucky falters, and that could easily happen since this is their first year in a long time being in the discussion for a trip to Atlanta, then its Florid and Georgia for the SEC East title. If he pulls out a win over Georgia that's three straight trips to Atlanta.

All of that with a team that most folks would agree is not very good. I'm not saying that to mock you guys or anything. Honestly you don't look very good and you haven't for some time. But Butterteeth just keeps finding ways to win the East.

With Bert, or Sumlin, or Gus, we all know what we have. With Mac its the same way... he's been a turd. But he's been a turd that floats to the top.

To be fair. The reason the team is not good, may not be the players.

Our offensive line has three future draft picks, yet is underwhelming.
Our QB is a NFL scouts dream. Six five, and rocket arm
We have one of the best WR cores in the country
Our secondary has talent everywhere
Our dline has three studs

At some point it isn't really always the players on the field. Look at 2012 UF. That team won inspite of coaching. Had ten NFL draft picks starting on defense. Our "crappy" QB is playing on Sunday. Our RB scored the first TD of the season in the NFL. I mean..we have always had talent.

So if the talent isn't producing, it kind of has to be on the coaches. This team should have looked a lot better than it did vs Michigan. The talent is there, while not Bama level....it's still enough talent that you should be able to stay competitive vs Michigan for Pete's sake.

With the recruiting class he has coming in, there's no way I'd want him fired. He beats the teams he should beat, so when he gets more elite talent, we will have no problem competing

I would want him gone. The guy has owned the east by default by being less shitty than the other shitty teams in the division. There is no excuse for Florida to not be elite. No excuse at all. Get his arse out of there before he sets the program back another 4 years.

If you can be absolutely certain your school's AD and president will invest in a proper coach, sure.

It absolutely CAN get worse than it is now.

Agreed. The money is there though. I would think our AD immediately goes for Mullen because of their obvious history.

If we fired Mac, I want a sure fire hire. Gundy, Mullen, Stoops, etc. No up and comers this time.

Mullen would be a killer hire at UF.

I'd hate to see it, but I'd for sure admit they were doing something right.

True, but MANY factors on and off the field got them where they are now.

It would have to be a homerun hire. I dont want him gone just for anybody at this point.

I understand UF was very thin offensively when he arrived. He has brought in talent that has to start showing up now. Franks,Davis,Cleveland and Toney are young studs..

I think he needs to take over the play calling on offense . He needs to be more hands one with the offense or he will be a failure. He is a game day coach more than a recruiter . He is a Dan Mullen type head coach . He doesn't have that personality to be a great recruiter so he needs to use his coaching skills to get better players. If he doesn't want to take over play calling then he needs to fire Nuss or get fired.

Please keep him.
From the outside, he comes off as being a hateable prick.

He is cocky I agree.

However. Really nice guy overall. Just kind a Spurrier type of nice. I mean we sat and talked about everything and he shook hands with anyone who came by. Photos. Everything. He also has the foulest mouth I've ever heard lol. Dude curses like it's going out of style.

He also had Summers and Nord with him. I really was tempted to offer him a warranty in return for leaving them behind and letting them wash ATV's for me.

Pros:

- Toothpaste sales are through the roof
- Shark population around Florida is in decline

Cons:

- Makes coaches like Bert look competent

So why is his record substantially better than Bert's?
