Honest question: when Saban retires if Dabo says no who's on deck?

I know another Saban thread by an LSU fan. I'm genuinely curious though, if Dabo is happy at Clempson what direction would Bama fans like the school to go in.

Honestly, not sure anybody knows at this point. If it's 5 years, who knows who will be the big name? 5 years ago, who knew Tom Herman?

The main criteria I'd have is that the person has to have a system and a plan that he is supremely confident in.

The easy name will be Jimbo. An on deck guy determined based on future performance could be Justin Fuente.

No telling. It might be a while before Saban retires, and who knows who the big name candidates will be at that time. I do know that the pressure on whoever that coach is will be unreal. He will probably be canned in short order because the expectation will be to duplicate Saban's success which is pretty much impossible.

Ask Rich Rodriguez what happens to you when you turn down an opportunity at greatness...

I love the scenario but Dabo isn't saying no.

Our AD will take the easy way out and just promote the DL coach to head coach.

Dabo would be stupid to take that job when Saban leaves. And sources have already proclaimed he has no interest in that job.

I think the title last year changes everything. Think it's very possible he stays and becomes all-time legend king of Clemson.

Or, he could go 9-3 the next 2 years and lose some shine.

Who knows.

Maybe he won't blow a double digit lead in the 4th quarter of the National Championship

You would expect otherwise before Saban has even retired?

Easy to say now. Clemson won't always be on top. Auburn will make sure of that next year.

That's absolutely not true

That's a possibility. Not necessarily Dabo loosing the shine, but Clemson....

Losing to an Austin Appleby led Florida team in a game in which you are unable to get a double digit lead, at home, sounds much better.

I wouldn't be too sure about that. Dabo is a great coach with major ties to the school, but he's built something at Clemson that is worth staying for. He might have answered momma's call if he failed to win a national championship, but consistently had Clemson finishing in the Top 10. It'll be more difficult to lure him away now that he does have a title ring on his finger.

I could see it going either way as well. A few decades ago, Dabo's success would make him a legend and make certain a decade of steady coaching there. Now, though, lose a few games each season and the base might get restless.

I think Jimbo would press to get the Alabama job. And I doubt we would see a repeat of the Bowden debacle this time.
