Doug Dickey proving further why he was the best Tennessee AD since the General, and best since for that matter.

Fulmer basically carved himself out a career by being a snake in the grass.

It was a case of "get well soon, but don't come back".

Long story short.

Phat Phil was an assistant under Johnny.

Johnny has a heart attack .... Phat Phil moves on Johnny's job.

Johnny comes back, loses to SC and is fired.

Phat Phil gets the job and begins the cheating years.

Phat Phil loses to SC and is fired.

UT karma kickback goes into effect.

Vols still reaping reward of Phat Phil curse.

Phat Phil attempts to end curse by pulling knife outta Johnny's back.

Majors had heart surgery back in the day. While he was out Fulner as OC was 3-0. Majors came back early from his surgery and the Vols proceeded to lose a few games. Meanwhile Majors was just hard to work with and at they end of the year majors was fired and Fulmer was hired. Fulmer had the boosters backing and Majors never forgave him. I was as at a private event in 2004 with former players and coaches and a few other people where both of them were in the same room and they didn't even acknowledge each other's presence. I'm sure Majors still hates him though.

Majors was coach and Fulmer OC. Majors at that time was a mean arse drunk although he had a hilariously awesome public persona. However, it had gotten to the point where players had threatened to boycott rather than play for him. Meanwhile, Johnny needed bypass surgery. That surgery took place near the time we played Bama. Well, Fulmer won the game. Majors came back and still coached a few but was eventually fired. Fulmer was named head coach.

Majors always blamed Fulmer for plotting against him but the truth was that the players had gotten sick of where Johnny was at and were threatening to quit. The AD fired Johnny because of that. Ironically while Majors held an enormous grudge against Fulmer the best way to get your arse handed to you was to speak ill of Johnny to Phil.

I may have gotten the timeline a bit off (I was too lazy to look it up exactly) but that's pretty much what happened. Majors has been cold to Fulmer ever since...well until just now.
