I wouldn't doubt if it's an unpublicized agreement (a rule change without an actual rule change) to continue this "player safety" campaign by limiting the times the DE/LB can get a full contact hit on the ball carrier.
Could be part of it. It seems the holding rule has almost shifted to "if you tackle a guy or if it is blatant in space and everyone will replay it 100 times if I don't flag it".
I've noticed it all year in games in person and on TV. There is clearly something to it.

Yep. Malzahn, 4th and short on the goal line, let's kick a field goal.
I was very disappointed with his play calling. Robinson was doing great getting chunks of yardage in the first half, so he totally abandons it in the 2nd. He's either dumb, stubborn, or both.

I do wish there was some consistency on holds though
Seemed pretty consistent Saturday given neither team was flagged for holding.

I think it was a combination of 2 things
(a) we brought another guy down into the box
(b) Young got hurt
You could argue that will still Auburn's only path to victory with Johnson being so bad, but it was a lot tougher and even in the 1st half when you were moving it pretty well you couldn't score touchdowns.

The SEC consistently doesn't call holding much anymore. Bama has the best DL in the country and leads the SEC with 40 sacks and I think opposing OL's have been called for holding against our sick DL maybe twice in 12 games? It's not something that favors Bama, has been across the board.

I wasn't referring to just that game. Next week, they'll be called differently by a different crew. It's just a strange lack of any kind of pattern.

Anyone can still frame pics from the game and see the exact same thing with Auburn.
I will say, some of those pictures reflect blatant holds. Sometimes still frames can be deceiving, but when the jersey is obviously being grabbed, that has nothing to do with the fact its a still frame.
I'm sure Auburn probably got away with some holds as well, but does that make it any better? Shouldn't we expect the SEC to officiate games correctly? I find these pics highly disturbing. It doesn't matter who the team is on either side, why do the SEC refs officiate so poorly these days?

Simply grabbing a jersey is not always holding. O-linemen grab jerseys on every single play.

Your average fan is an idiot and doesnt understand this. What IS funny is they never seem to notice when their Oline is also doing this.

Evans being held outside the shoulders and Ragland being grabbed outside the shoulders.
Welp, that was tough.

Not sure if they still do this, but didn't officials used to meet with the coaches of both teams to explain how things would be called? And if both coaches agreed whether to be strict or liberal? Because I can pretty much guarantee that neither team being called for holding benefited AU more than UA.

Reuben is being wrapped up too. Can't see the Auburn player's arms, but Reuben's head, hips and legs are facing the runningback, but his torso and shoulders are still facing the offensive lineman.

I'd like to see how many holds were called against our opponents this year. I guarantee it isn't more than 10 or 15. And that is against the past defensive line in football and one of the best 5 pass rushes in football.
The answer is three:
Wisconsin 2nd quarter
Arkansas 2nd quarter declined
LSU 3rd quarter declined
