At least rant wise, when did these two terms become popular? I think I know what year both started in, but I'd like to hear some rant historians and vets check in with their observations of the matter.

Alabama folks don't beat themselves.

But they do beat their cousin-wives.

Crazy for TN and LA people to start thinking their cajun and hillbilly asses are superior to anyone.

You make it easy. We always think...could it be any worse? And then we remember Mississippi and Alabama exist.

Could be,
But there is less ink about LSU and TN fans punching the Alabama (now pro )QB in a bar and yelling Geaux Tigers.
There is no ink of TN fans shooting their kin due to them pulling for Auburn.
There is no ink about LSU fans killing trees, calling Finebaum, then bragging about it.
There is no ink about sexual assualt Tea Bags.

Roll Damn Tide. It's not a superiority thing.....it's just less pathetic morons packed into one big Tuscaloosa fanbase.

But don't worry, aTm is closing in fast.

Maybe LSU fans could take some pride in college football too if their team hadn't lost to Alabama the last four times in a row. Guess we'll never know.

Serious answer:

We beat ourselves comes from 2011 when LSU beat Bama in the 9-6. Literally every Bama fan said that LSU didn't win, Bama just beat themselves. It is what it is.

tDecline comes from probably a year and a half to 2 years ago and refers to people thinking that LSU is going to be a worse team each year. I believe Arkansas fans coined this one.

LA is basically a swampy version of AL, minus the good football.

The decline was started by Bama fans to lsu fans back in 2009 saying sabans players were about done and Miles sucked so the decline had begun. Tdecline was coined around 2012.

Bama fans have always claimed they beat themselves. I remember hearing that as a kid when AU won ever year in the late 80s.

"The decline" began after the 21-0 game. During the following off season a writer predicted a decline for the LSU football program in years to come. The article was posted on the tiger rant by an LSU poster, the LSU fans didn't receive the article well. The thread got very long and "the decline" was mockingly referenced in other football threads on the tiger rant by LSU fans.
The article was eventually posted on the SECR and the rant ran with it, putting LSU fans in defense mode. Eventually the LSU fans tried deflection as a means to cope, assigning "the decline" to other programs. After a couple of years the term became generic.

Now, years later the author has been shown to be 100% correct. LSU football has decline every year since the article was written.

And the question is, how far will LSU football fade? They bring in too much talent to drop off completely. Another year of crappy QB play? If that happens again, no way they finish in the top 2 in the SEC West.

So did your fans have no pride in college football when you lost 6 times in a row to Tubbs and the Barn?
