I honestly can't believe the hate on here for Uncle Verne. It's like watching football with my grandfather.

I'll take mistake-laden Verne over Troll Brando seven days out of seven.

But yet they continue to let Holtz slobber through game after game.

Leave Verne alone!!! He's like my funny old uncle or something. I love him.

I don't get the hate either. He makes mistakes, yes, but so does Danielson. I had the good fortune to meet Verne before the 2011 Iron Bowl, right outside the stadium, and the man was one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. Very jovial.

Maybe it's just me but I don't want to watch football with a dead guy

Agree, I am barely tuned in to anything they are saying anyway.

I actually don't care as much about the name ( to many goofy names to pronounce correctly ) pronouncing as much as the “ flavor ” and Verne adds flavor to the game and Gary is very intuitive about the game , a perfect coupling IMO.

When Verne forgets who is in the booth with him we'll know he's got about 1 year left.

He gets way more right, though.

Gary claims he knows the outcome of a play or a penalty, then watches the replay, changes his mind, then the review goes in a completely different direction.

Haha, exactly this. Our wacky yankee uncle will never get fired. It is unthinkable.

I don't like Verne but I know what the alternative will be (Brando), so I hope he stays until they have to cart him out.

I wish CBS would do the right thing and offer Nessler the spot whenever Verne retires to the 16th hole at Augusta. Nessler is the best broadcaster in the country IMO. He could do SEC Football, the NCAA Tourney, and NFL Playoffs.

I've heard him interviewed many times and he is a real class act.

It's a shame the kids don't treasure these voices that'll make their memories. Pat Summerall anyone?
