We had more rain here fall in a 72 hour period than the city of Los Angeles has had in the last 4 years.

Think about that

It was a once in a 1,000 year flood in some areas which means there was a .1% chance this could happen.

Yep, and as I watched that storm on radar for 3 days, two days in it didn't move. It just sat there. I knew then it was going to be a total disaster. God Bless the people on Louisiana. The "Cajun Navy" as many are called now. Heroes left and right. I know a lot of people down there, hell, my family is originally from Louisiana. I hope everyone on this board does something to help those victims.

Talked to one of my salesmen today. He went to a restaurant by the Bass Pro in Denham to estimate some work. He told me that if he hadn't been in Bay St Louis the day after Katrina landed, the devastation in Denham would have been the worst thing he's seen in his life.

People are hurting. We're a prideful, stubborn bunch, but a lot of us need help.

Really thats fricking insane, why isn't this situation getting more news coverage, from half of the things I read on here this is the worst thing to happen to Louisiana since Katrina?

It just makes me mad to see us throw money at other countries while our own people who play by the rules and got wiped out are told "sorry, pal, we have a cap when it comes to Americans. Good luck, hope you figure things out. Buh bye now."
This has been one of my biggest problems with this country, I've seen more news coverage on the Haiti earthquake when that little incident happened than I've seen on the Louisiana floodings, I honestly didn't even know it was as bad as others said it was because I've seen little to any noticable news coverage over it, its a damn shame.

I think the worst thing about it all is the fact there really wasn't any warning to speak of, so people had no time to move things up to higher ground or get things out.

Most people had the clothes on their back and everything else is destroyed.

This. Have multiple family members that live in the BTR/Denham area. Some had 5ft. Some had 1 ft. But they all day it just happened to fast. No time to save anything but pets and themselves.

I was lucky and did not get water in my house, but I have some of my employees living with me who did. Out of everyone I work with about 80% lost their homes and everything with it. It is unreal the amount
of people that are effected by this, but everyone is working to rebuild and start new.

One thing that a lot of people down there are going to be in need of is something like wood bleach or killz to kill all the mold that is sure to be growing even in the studs in those homes.

I didn't get water this time. Lost my house to Katrina and my current place took on water during the March flooding, but it's on a river and the ground floor is all cinderblock, so I didn't lose much.

I am helping out those who were affected as much as I can. My brother and I fed about 500 people at one of the shelters yesterday and planning to go back next weekend to help remove sheetrock.

It's really bad for those afftected. A lot of the highways around I-10 are still under water. From what I was told yesterday, a lot of homes are still under water too.

The water was only about 3 feet from the roadway along I-10.

How can I help?

Send money somewhere? Come over and work? Bring certain supplies? Organize something? Just let me know.

Be careful on where you send your money to. It's some scam artist there. Its sad but Its the truth. Its a sad world that we live in.

That's true. Fema don't have any money so they can only spend that amount per household.

If you can come in person definitely that. The Red Cross is running most of the shelters. I don't think sheetrock removal efforts have been organized yet. In a lot of places the water still hasn't gone down.

It's pretty awesome how people put differences aside in times a crisis. These types of events definitely bring out the best in people.
