Kanell's tweet downplayed the program's 16th national title and fourth in seven years. His number skips over four unclaimed national titles won during the 1945, 1966, 1975 and 1977 seasons along with another somewhere over the last 90 years.
My guess would be 1930 when Alabama finished tied with Notre Dame for No. 1 in the Davis Poll. The Associated Press Poll made its debut in 1936. The Crimson Tide has claimed nine AP titles during that stretch.
