Here's my serious take on the reason all 7 West teams in the top 25.

The voters don't see a whole lot of difference between 1 - 7. They know each West team has a legit shot to not only win the SEC, but also a great shot at the playoffs. The voters are all over the place because it is much more complicated than their normal process of simply comparing rosters and listing teams in order.

For probably the first time in the history of college football, a conference (or division) is so close top to bottom, that the voters cannot predict with any reasonable degree of football certainty, who wins a given matchup on a given Saturday between 2 West teams, based on rosters, last year's results, and the week 1 results (at least on paper).

This "problem" of all 7 West teams being ranked (only a problem for the other asshurt conferences, and the cause of much weeping and gnashing of teeth) will eventually work itself out, and only 5 West teams will be ranked. The two unlucky teams will still be better than the top third of every other conference. What can you do?

Playing in the West is both a Blessing and a Curse:

The Curse:
The playoff committee may be too stubborn to put a 2-loss SEC team into the playoffs over a team that plays 2 ranked teams all year long, both in November.

Also, some VERY good 4-5 loss teams will end the season unranked, playing in a shitty bowl against the no. 2 or 3 team from another conference, said team having an ax to grind, something to prove, and a surfboard-sized chip on their collective shoulder.

The Blessing:
Goddamn, there are some good fricking football games ahead. And the winneer will have fricking earned it.

For these reasons, I am forced to hold my nose and support all West opponents in bowl games, because I know their path to the post-season would be 5x harder than ANYBODY ELSE. frick everybody else! I will support LSU in the Texas bowl. I will support Auburn in the Liberty bowl, Ole Miss in the taxSlayer bowl, Alabama in the peach bowl, State in the Independence. When A&M plays in the Cotton Bowl, I would hope we also get your support.

Thanks and Gig'em.

We can all go back to the normal tRant M.O. of pooh flinging and jackassery.

So Arkansas in the Sugar Bowl? I'll take it.

Actually, a good bet is that lots of people want to see top 25 match-ups. Those have a cachet. So if a top 10 team takes on a 21-25 ranked team, it may not be particularly competitive but it's still "a match-up between two ranked teams." Until the conference play starts to sort them out, these teams will stay ranked.

I certainly don't expect to see Tennessee, Georgia or Florida in NO on NYD.
