Not a lawyer but this appears to just be defense attorneys requesting evidence already gathered by the DA. If there was any culpability there, wouldn't the DA have already charged someone based on these text messages?

My thoughts as well. I guess it could make some stuff public that could put Vandy in a bad light and force Vandy's hand in firing coaches. That seems unlikely though if no coaches were charged.

Yet 95% of the people reading the headline won't realize that the DA already has all of these text messages and no charges were filled against any coaches.

Not charging the coaches doesn't rule out that the texts might be embarrassing or worse.

No reason to think so, just pointing out that it's not crystal clear.

When this story first came out, it was mentioned that texts were sent to the coaches about the incident. Franklin then later denied any such texts were sent.

IF the coaches were found to be withholding evidence, then they are fricked. If one or more of them gets caught in this and they roll on Franklin too, Vandy football is fricked. They can afford to lose an Asst or two, but if they lose Franklin....

Once again, it would appear that the DA has all of these text messages already. No charges filed and the DA already stating publicly that Franklin was not culpable. But of course the Tennesseean won't bother to remind anyone of those facts.

Wow, Vandy bowl-eligible two years in a row AND embroiled in a football rape scandal. After a 100 years, you've finally decided to JOIN the SEC conference, Congrats!

IMO the Tennessean isn't trying to paint any picture here....they are just reporting that the former players' defense attorneys are requesting the text messages along with other evidence that they claim the DA's office has yet to turn over to them, among other complaints such as the imposed "gag order".

It's true that whatever additional evidence the defense attorneys think the DA's office has may end up amounting to absolutely nothing, but the media source isn't really making any claim that it wouldn't...if anyone is, it's the defense attorneys...
